Reports and reviews are super for the 17 but I just want a few more months with my beloved Ti before I buy. So, how long do I have to wait to get Rev II of the 17? Also, what might be the changes?

2 GB of ram max is one I would bet on now that 1GB SODIMM's are out.

Also 1.2-1.25GHZ speed.

Up to an 80-100GB drive and faster CD-R and DVD-R burn speeds (On the same Matshita drive I would bet)

Other than that? Who Knows??

Seeing how I am really enjoying my 1GHZ ti-book, I would at LEAST for a rev-b 17 inch with the above specs to even consider it a major improvement over my current machine.

Isn't this something to ask after the 17" has been out for a few months, rather than a few minutes?

Yeah, chill out with the waiting for revision. It's not going to happen for a while. I suspect the 15" Albook will be eleased way before the 17" is revised. If you're going to get one, get one now. Don't wait any longer for what could take many more months.

Nah, Don't get one now if you have a 1ghz ti-book. All in all it's computer and the overall purpose is about it's computation speed:

Definition:
"A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information".

The drive speed, ram and proccesor speed all do this. The 1ghz ti does it nearly as fast as the new 17.

Wait for a signicant improvement, yeah?

....that is if you have an 867 or faster.

I don't know what is reasonable time to wait to ask. But you know Apple is planning so we can speculate. You bet I am curious and I know a lot of people are to. I have a tiBook I am happy with but I am looking to time my next purchase. Seems like a good topic questions. If you think it is irreverant to ask than don't participate

I think that no later than July we will see the new PBG4 15 aluminum and revised 12 &17.

It's just the frequency of the revision cycle.

Truly just my opinion though.

June or July for Rev B would be fine with me. Well, may would be sweet......

BTW, is it a given that a 15 al is coming out at all? I am getting the impression that the 17 doesn't really leave much room for differentiation of a 15 - whats the proposition?

I really hope that Apple doesn't stop the 15"..It's IMHO the best compromize size for a laptop..

Isn't the current 17-inch only limited by the current chips? I think it can access 2GB, if there were 1GB chips on the market.

*I think*

Wasn't there a poll recently of what topics would go up on the board after the 17" started arriving in peoples laps? I think we have our answer folks. Human nature I guess, but come on...give me a break. Only like 2% of the people that ordered even have them yet. At least wait till we start complaining about them to ask about the next Revision. geez.

Jeez! Very few people even HAVE THEM yet! Give me a break.

Remember, the original Ti was a year before it's first revision. I think that that is the nature of a completely new product such as this, there is not that much to be improved. I would say July at the EARLIEST, absolute earliest.

I bet a 17" revision will come between August and Sept. July feels a bit early, given the current machines are just shipping now. But Apple has to stay aggressive with the updates.

Elements to update:
1) DVD-R speed (goes up to 2x).
2) CPU (goes to 1.1 or 1.2 ghz)
3) maybe bigger hard drive

Of course, the most important update for me would be a higher screen res (around 1600xwhatever), but I think that won't come until the middle of next year.

According to SJ 2003 is to be the "year of the portable." Well, we will need more products and updates sooner rather than later.
