One of my iPod Touch still gives the error message when I try to update apps. I've tried hard restart, calendar change, purchase another app, etc. and nothing has worked. Is there one foolproof way to fix this and stop it from happening again?

This is a known issue and there is a very long thread devoted to this problem over on Apple's user forums. The solutions are varied and not all solutions work for everyone. The one that seems to work most is to reset ALL settings, not just network settings. For others, signing out from your Apple ID and then back in works.
