Can anyone recommend a good stand alone scanning application?

I tried VueScan, and it doesn't want to work, neither does the HP ScanPro that came with my printer (HP Officejet 6500).

Any alternatives out there?

Image Capture in Snow Leopard. Paired with Twain Sane the app may work with your device.

ExactCODE: ExactScan would work.

Can't say too much about it, but I recently stumbled upon it and liked the features.
It's not free though.

Btw, I found Image Capture to be unreliable with some TWAIN sources. E.g., it keeps breaking with my Brother all-in-one.

Twain Sane doesn't appear to support my printer, so that's out.

I downloaded new drivers from HP which replaced HP ScanPro with HP Scan, which actually works. Preview and Image Capture also work, although they don't have the features of HP Scan, which is really okay, as my scanning needs are pretty basic.

Exact Scan, nice as it may be, is way too spendy for me.
