hi,

can you have a dual monitor set up with the mac mini.

either 2 x CRT or 2 x TFT?

No, sorry.

You can have such a setup on some notebooks that, in addition to the LCD screen, have a video out port.

The Mini just has the one video port.

I have heard of a USB video adapter that is supposedly manufactured for the PC world, not for the Mac. Don't know of any details. Don't think much of the idea, personally.

Just buy a bigger single display (huge cinema display, anyone?) - I know I would love my Mac mini to drive two displays - my wintel laptop does it so well using the TFT I bought in advance for the mini - but I would settle for a Cinema display if the things were not so damned expensive.

That all said, I think you can get a magical box to split video across multiple displays (probably prohibitively expensive), so you can simply output 2480*1024 and split it onto two 17" TFTs.

Just get the a 20" display....there's plenty of room on that thing for a mini user.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)
