I still don't like the stand, but black is a step forward.

Wow, I agree. That's some good bang for the buck...
Wanna see them in person, though.

In a bit of poetic spelling irony you misspelled "n3w".

Phe-eww, those are fsckin' ugly. I've never owned a Formac product but after reading some of the customer support stories about their Studio TVR box, I don't think I'd touch any of their products - not even with a pair of stolen pliers.

their design looks a little dated now that apple has gone aluminum.
not to mention that now since apple ditched ADC, formac doesn't really have the same impact they once may have had. any DVI will play along with a g5 or pBook. not looking good for the formac company.
for my money, id follow teh 'Fad on this one. looks like a better fit.

i have always thought a widescreen monitor was a 'neat' idea, but now that i have the 15" powerbook, i know i won't enjoy using a _regular_ shaped monitor again.
but for $599 and $899, not bad at all.

doesn't matter if their displays are great or not, their customer service suck. My friend tried to order their 17" display online a long time ago, never heard back from them. And there weren't anybody to answer the phone when my friend tried to call them.

If you want something beautiful and widescreen, get an Apple.
If you want something cheap and functional, get a Dell 2001FP.
Period.

I don't think I'd buy. That said I wish Apple offered a relatively cheap 17 inch LCD to go along with the new low end Power Mac. In the end I'll probably buy an NEC or something. Well I mean, when I have money for a computer.

I like 'em.
Different enough.
But not too different.
And a lot cheaper than an Apple display.

I always thought the easel design was *REALLY* nice, perhaps not the most functional in the world, but still REALLY nice.
It also helped set apple apart from other companies with the monitors. Pretty much every display since the G3 either had a tripod stand, that really sick acrylic stand they used on the 17" ADC crt, or the easel stand. This is the only company that's caught the idea and done it RIGHT (along with apple).
What I'd LOVE to see is a widescreen version.

I have one of the previous 2010 and it is a great display. I bought it due to the excellent reviews it received from CNET, macworld and others. I never had a problem and am very satisfied. The new display seems to have even better specs than the one I have. They probably hit a homerun with this one. And I might be up for a 2nd display (-:

I have a gallery 1740 and it stil runs like a charm. I still like the design, at least it has character (the Apple display now looks like any other display, broing, boring, boring). And the picture quality is just awesome. After all that is why I bought the display.

I agree the new Apple displays are boring, they do look better from the side in person though as the sides are white. I really liked the old displays (I own a 20inch).

I own the gallery 2010 (old version) and am very happy with it. If you look at the performance of this baby it was a real bargain. I have looked extensively at LCDs before making the purchase, and I have not seen one competitor that offers the same picture quality. Of course you can always argue about design, but for me the most important feature was the TFT. And here the Formac is second to none. To bad they are not in any retail store for people to see ...

I know huh! It's a shame Apple seems to have ditched their whole "unique design" thing.

Boring or not, I just bought an Apple 20" and I love it. I might have considered a Formac if I could've seen one at a store somewhere. I just don't think I could buy an expensive display online, sight unseen. But it would have to be much better than the Apple display for me to consider it. Aesthetics are important to me... I like matching hardware. Call me crazy.
