I'd really like to figure out a way to have my powerbook online through my Airport Extreme base station without hooking the base station up to a second computer. Any ideas? I know, it sounds rediculous. Or, what could I do for cheap as a second comp? My funds are a little tight after getting the new AL15, and the idea of buying ANOTHER computer just so I be wireless with the PB is hard to swallow!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can't you just plug the Aiport Extreme Base Station to the Internet connection?

If you have broadband, it is pretty straightforward, just plug the RJ-45 cable to the base.

If you are on dialup, you need an Airport Extreme Base Station with modem (the expensive one).

I haven't received the PB or the base station yet. I looked at apple's site and it seemed to me that you had to have a hard connection to a computer to use the base station. If I can just plug it in and hook it to the wall, I'm golden! Can you confirm that that's all I have to do?

Well, I could take photos of my Airport Extreme Base Station plugged to my DSL router, but hey too much trouble... just trust me.

However, like I said before, if you connect using a dialup connection, you need the Airport Extreme Base Station with modem.

My airport extreme base station is hardwired to the broadband modem and my laptop works fine. I could run a cable from the airport extreme to another computer if I wanted to.

I'm not a techie and it was easy to set up.

Yeah, the point of a ABS is that you don't need another mac to facilitate an ethernet connection. And if you had another mac that you were willing to always leave on, you could just put an airport card into it and broadcast to other computers via the sharing panel in preferences.
