When I go in to my local Apple Store to pick up 2 new 3gs (one for me one for my wife, both to be on the same plan), will I be able/allowed to select new phone numbers? (i.e. I do not want to keep my current T-Mobile numbers. I want to choose the number myself from available options and not be assigned some random number.) At the very least, I want to be able to pick my own prefix. I would pay a few to do this. Anyone tried this?

I had a similar issue about a year ago with adding a line to my phone plan. I was told that if I wanted to add a number and have it keep the same area code as my original phone I'd have to do it on the phone or back in my home market. Well, I wasn't going to be in my home market for several more months so I had to call them and place the order that way so both lines could keep the area code. I think you'd have better luck trying to get the main 7 digits you wanted rather than the area code at an Apple/ATT store.

I'm not after a different area code. The area code can be the one for my area. What I mean by the prefix is the first 3 numbers of the 7. For business purposes, it would be a huge benefit for me to be able to choose those, if not all 7.
