The following was posted today on the Predictor site. Sounds like Dell is part of the hold-up.

9/13/04 -
Update of the past week:

Work on the Win32 Mfold application has been mostly completed and is now to be tested on a windows 98 testbed. Any clue how hard it is to find a working Win98 PC these days? We can't find a single working machine in the whole of Scripps! We won't give up though and keep on searching: somewhere in a corner somebody must have a Win98 PC standing around...

The servers have not been delivered and Dell can't give us an estimated time of delivery yet; they seem to have some sort of problem with our order. We are looking into this and hope it will be resolved as quickly as possible.

We have started to think a bit more on the future of Predictor and are currently in the process of writing an NSF grant proposal. Don't worry, we don't need this money right now, but at some time in the future people will have to be paid to keep Predictor alive. (and let us assure you that all the BOINC projects have this problem ;-)

Work is underway to implement checkpoints for Charmm, but this is a much harder task than we originally thought (although not impossible). Ofcourse if we want to continue using Charmm on BOINC 4.x, we'll have to get these checkpoints in so we're going for it full speed!

Andre, just reported on the Predictor forums, that according to Dell, the hold-up on the new hardware is the 2gb RAM SIMMs they ordered. Supposed to be in this week according to Dell, so they are hoping the new servers will be in by the weekend. Apparently these new servers are supposed to be pretty much top end equipment.

Hopefully that means closed beta will gear up next week, with a fast transformation over to public. Currently MacNN is #3 in Recent average credit (shows how funky that calculation is, since nobody has crunched for a month now) and #8 in total credit. With a fast start when it opens up public again, we should be able make a quick push into the top 5. Predictor really is a good project. It will be released on BOINC 4.xx and so will be compatible with the other projects out there.

Well Dell, finally confirmed shipment of the new server Predictor has been waiting on. From their front page:
10/21/04
Great news! DELL has confirmed to us that the new server has been sent today.
About time. The project has been down for more then 1.5 months waiting on that server. I wonder how long it will take for them to get it up and running?

At least we know not to buy stuff from Dell.... wait we already knew that.

It will be great when Predictor comes back online.
Reader50 is ready to bring the stats online once the project is active again and the final tests can be done.

Just posted today on the Predictor site....
11/17/04
Work on the server is advancing very well and we think (no promises) that we might have predictor up and running again by the end of the week :-) Keep you updated...
Team MacNN is currently #8 in total credit and #1 in recent average credit, after the long layoff. Not a bad place to restart from.

So... now how do I get my Predictor stats ID working?

Woo Hoooo! For Prediction@Home fans like myself, this is great news. From the Predictor home page.....
11/21/04
Work on the new Predictor@Home system has almost completed. To be able to take all of our data from the old system to the new one, we will shut it down for maintenance. The next time you'll be reading our forums will be on the new servers :-) Looking forward to see you all back then!
It has been a long 2.5 months without predictor, but the wait is almost worth it. This will not only bring Predictor back online, but will also bring it into parity with other BOINC projects. --- Former Distributed Folding Fans, this is the project you have been waiting for. It does the same thing dfold did, but in a different way. Just be aware that the the first few weeks back will still be beta testing of sorts, I imagine.
