20 second *install* not *download*. They clearly didn't realize that people are still using dial-up connections (51 kb/sec ?!?). I just downloaded it and the download was complete before Firefox was able to popup the download status dialog.

Right now, I'm downloading from iTunes and Bittorrent at 622 KB/s on a nothing-special cable internet connection. Of course it's gonna take several minutes to download 7MB at 51 KB/s. Of course, Microsoft got the MB wrong (though, they're getting better ... when I downloaded it this morning, they said it was 4MB)

Though, we're talking MB here. To be out a few MB isn't really a big deal. If it was 141MB and it turned out to be 147MB we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I was referring to your dial-up reference.

The 52KBS MAX!! written on modem boxes of yesteryear referred to the potential amount of traffic the modem could receive on the line, which was rarely the case with actual usage.

And where I usually use the net, at the office, I get 1 megabyte per second actual usage, on a 4 meg line.

Oh, and not every country in the world has access to the intraweb tubes like you. Someone was complaining the other day about eating into their bandwidth usage for the month.

Please dial in you sarcasmonometer. I'm well aware -- I was mixing the two up, since Microsoft was mixing up the stated size of the file & its actual size. ("1 mb! 20 second install!" when the actual download is more than 7 times that size. ) I'm about to give up trying to have a sense of humor, even in the obviously humorously-posted threads.

True, it means the file is 128 kilobytes, which just makes calverson's point about Microsoft's messed up numbers stronger than even he knew.
