Yes.

Great? It's a different approach to conversation; rather than a hundred people chiming in on a single topic the entire time, it's listening to single users chiming in about a hundred different topics with the ability to selectively follow topics of interest.

I didn't see a conversation going on with the few MacNN twitterers I checked last week.

Otherwise, I'm aware of what Twitter is, disregarding your somewhat enthusiastic and exaggerated description.

One MacNNer is on my list. I get more out of his facebook update status though.

I am getting ready to just stop going to twitter. I guess I don't "get it".

Well, this thread has had me persuing twitter for the past few days (A dose of overtime may have contributed to the situation).

This is the variety of diverting colloquy that could draw one in:
lonelysandwich - "We need to stand up and say Eight is Enough! And One Day at a Time, we can ease these Growing Pains! Benson!"

I'm still on the fence, though I've started an account to throw random musings into. We'll see how it goes.

Edit: A little eerie, double-posting, but not really, under my predecessor.

I just joined recently, but not because I didn't get it beforehand. I never expected so many people to outright hate it considering they post on an online message board.

Twitter is a logical extension of blogging and social networking, but that by itself doesn't make it any more useful than the sum of its parts. I don't hate it (or see a use for it, personally), but it's easy to find specific examples of extreme narcissism through Twitter, which is one of Web 2.0's least appealing characteristics.

I thought it was a little strange at first, but I just set one up. It's kind of fun, like a dedicated Facebook status update-type dealy.

I have a lot of fun with twitter. I've "met" friends of friends who eventually became friends of mine as well. So, in a very real sense it has expanded my real-life social circles.

What's everyone using for an OS X desktop client for twitter? I got tweetr, twirl, and twitterific on my Macbook. Twitterific seems nice, but I don't like the ad thing.

I don't really get why I would want to use Twitter but I parked my name there about six months ago in case I ever needed to have an account. So far I've updated it once. I also don't really use the status function of Facebook so its no surprise that I find Twitter less than interesting.

I understand narcissism but I don't know many people who spend their time reading or using Twitter that aren't in some tech related field. Since I don't work in that area I don't interact with those people very often anyway so I have no reason to update them on my day to day business.

Try the single column view. That might be more to your liking. I use it on a 14" screen so I'm not MUCH better off.

Ah, nice. That helps out. So far I'm loving the blu client on Vista and either tweetdeck or twitterific on the Mac. 6 of one, half dozen of the other, so to speak.

Those are both spam. I tend to look at the content of their tweets. (One of which has NONE). Clearly they are both brand new accounts. I wouldn't start following either one.
