I use both Yahoo! and MSN clients. Neither automatically reconnect after my PowerBook wakes up.

iChat works perfectly of course.

Yahoo and MSN both pop a message box saying "disconnected" and I have to manually reconnect. Most annoying.

Is there a way to fix this?

I used Fire for a while but I had problems with Yahoo and it, and so I simply ended up using the native clients. However they are very notebook unfriendly! What should I do?

Have you tried Adium? I use this on my Powerbook for AOL & MSN and there are no problems reconnecting after waking from sleep. I'm using 10.3.7 on a 1.5gHz Powerbook

It does get a little annoying if you have your keychain set to lock when the computer sleeps - as soon as you open the lid it's there bothering you for your keychain password

Agreed. Use Adium for your Yahoo and MSN. A much smoother experience, and works in a way just like iChat.
