Just wanted to know what everyone thought the most beautiful application was. Any application, Mac, Windows, Linux, ... just wanted people's opinion.

For me, Starry Night.
Why it does it for me:
Truely "Mac-like" ease of use, despite a tremendous amount of information and control.

Being a Graphics guy I'd have to say my personal all-time favorite is Painter.
I don't even use it at work (I use the "industry standard" stuff, like Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., etc.) but to me it kicks all thier asses. I love knocking out some renderings in this application because it has the look of real paint and I can work with it with my Wacom tablet in the same manner as painting on real canvas. I don't even think photoshop comes close.

I've recently become very interested in painter. Do you have any examples of stuff you've painted? I'd like to see your work.

Looks like old tube equipment, sounds like a million bucks. One of the best audio mastering packages out there. Easy as pie to learn.

Pffft. Photoshop. I get that warm feeling when she opens up and my palettes appear.... Then she unexpectedly quits, the bitch. We have a good relationship, though.

I don't get around as much as you guys but I still admire the looks and layout of iMovie2. I appreciate it even more after trying iMovie3. I'm also partial to OmniWeb.

I really like VideoLANs new UI including a pretty sweet controller with integrated playlist.
The fact that it works flawlessly may also contribute to the high marks I give to it.

I like painter as an app also, but OM it hs to have one of the WORST gui's ever. Sooo disorganized and doesnlt follow any OS X guidlines, windows don't evenhave shadows, I hope version 8 is better. and look at goodbrush.com if u wanna see what a pro can do with painter, liek this guy is sick. and taje a look a my site if u want, iuse it from time to time also, but i'm more of ps7 fan.

Keynote.
It's not something that would see regular use on my computer, but played around with it for 45 minutes last night at a friends house. Makes me wish I had more of a need for presentation software.

Well ok, what doesn't it do that you need? Seems to work well playing every movie known to direct connect and subsequently my harddrive.

My toilet brush also does everything I need it to do, and yet I wouldn't call that thing beautiful.

I've found quite a few AVIs that VLC won't touch and mplayer does great at - TV episode rips mostly.
And that gigantic play button - I mean come on, is that really necessary?

It's a piece of administrative software that the CEO (Catholic Education Office), DOE (Department of Education) and BOS (Board of Studies) uses. We use it at work (high school) for all sorts of stuff. It runs in DOS, I think - I'm not sure. I avoid it like the plague, and stick to 4D...

Well for me at least playing and pausing are the two things I do the most while watching a movie. So having an oversized button is nice when I'm all liquored up watching Simpsons episodes
Maybe I'm odd then, but also the name of this thread suggest that looks are the only criteria, not really usability or anything. And I think it looks neat, small, very straightfoward (which can't be said for alot of apps), etc...

Bryce. Plus a lot of the earlier programs design by Kai Krause and Co..
This is Bryce 5. Dunno what all the blue is all about.
If Apple ever borrowed from anyone for elements in OS X...it was from these guys.
Can't wait until Bryce 5 and the next Poser comes out for OS X.
Next would be iTunes...

I wasn't sure about Bryce 5 for OS X out, thanks.
Well, Bryce has been out a lot longer than OS X. Years. And it has usually looked this way. I mean look...drop shadows, pulsing buttons and smooth UI design. Confusing to some, but after using it myself (I use Bryce 4 under Classic right now) for so long the UI and its tools are pretty self explanatory.
Here are some of the cool tools and UIs from Kai Power Tools:
Pretty inovative. And "copied" by others.

My vote goes to any Omnigroup application. OS X developers should take notes on how they do UI development.
