I'm getting a Mac Mini. It'll go on a desk, and it'll be attached to a 24 inch (screen/monitor/TV) - this is the part you people come in.

Be nice to have a TV that I could connect to the antenna (standard RF coaxial jobby) as well as use for the Mini.

What do the gurus think, suggest, recommend? What sort of connection (I've seen the flicker probs with Minis attached on Apple Support forums).

You mean, you're using a standard LED/etc. TV with the mini, instead of a monitor?

I'm sure you're aware of this, but monitors are far better and easier on the eyes than TVs for close-range OS viewing. The difference is pretty significant, in my experience.

I'm not using anything yet. There are monitors for sale that have digital tuners and there are TVs for sale that are in the 24 inch range. I'm really not sure what to get for the Mini that I will be getting. But since you state that monitors aren't good for close range stuff.

Without getting into too much technical detail, what is worse about TVs?

Just from a simple viewing test, they're not as nice or easy on the eyes, at least in my experience. Walk into your local electronics store and check it out. I did so a few years back - perhaps things have changed by now?

I think a better solution would be to get a nice computer monitor and then get a TV tuner, like one of the ones from El Gato.

Doesn't the difference boil down to pixel density, with TVs having fewer pixels per inch than monitors?

Yup.

To put it another way, a 1080p TV works fine as a monitor if it's 13" diagonal.

And, a 27" monitor is twice as expensive as a 27" TV because it has greater pixel density.
