Looking over the specs, it seems like it does. But Apple doesn't seem to provide a definitive answer.

Does it simply work itself into your existing wireless network? Or can I actually use it in lieu of my shitty AirPort Express?

I don't think so. The hardware hasn't changed, and the old AppleTV can only join existing networks. However... since it is running a fairly standard Mac OS X underneath, it is theoretically possible to do Internet sharing (either via the wireless interface or through the wired interface).

I doubt it. The tech specs page lists the following:
"AirPort Extreme, Wi-Fi 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n wireless network, or 10/100BASE-T Ethernet network"

Its an OR condition, not an AND condition.

Out of the box, its either wireless or wired. It can't be both. But as mentioned previously, perhaps hackable to do what you want.

From using mine, it is always a client. It is not a server/router/NAT-capable entity.
Too many Apple/Mac products to even bother listing!
