How does wikipedia make money?

So I've got an idea for what I think would be a great web resource. A wiki would probably be the best format for it, and it would end up being something along the lines of a specialized wikipedia. The problem is that if it were every truly successful it would need to make money while, like wikipedia, avoiding any conflicts that would call into question the objectivity and reliability of the information.
It looks like wikipedia costs around $1m a year to run. How do they cover these costs?

Besides the wiki foundation, its founder Jimmy Wales is also a purveyor of soft-core photography.
Before that, he was an options trader.
