When did it come out? How much total memory is suggested if I plan on doing any work with Maya, 3Ds Max, or just any 3-d modeling using Solidworks?

My friend recommended I wait for the Nehalem to come out, I haven't been keeping good tabs on release dates at all.

edit: Oh, just this month. I don't feel so badly that I didn't notice. was there even a formal announcement?
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!
