I know I should clarify, but any soccer fans in the US here? My wife and I just bought season tickets for the DC United for $850 for two seats. Up in the vip section.
Any other MLS fans here?

You should manage to see at least one (former?) world class player at least twice in the season. with David Beckham signing for L.A. Galaxy from Real Madrid

Our company bought two season tickets to see Becks play in L.A.
Here's hoping it's the beginning of something special here in the states.
... though I'm not holding my breath.

Bah, let's face it, Becks was something special because he could curl the ball so well. And then everyone else caught on, and since then he's been nothing more than a better-than-average player.
I'd definitely like to see some Toronto FC games though.

I find it boring to watch on tv, games are far too long and scoring is low. Reminds me on an 18 inning baseball game that ends in a 1 - 0 win

Coming from an Aussie!
I'm a long time soccer lover and player, though i can't for the life of me see the attraction with Beckham. He was good years ago, when he was surrounded by a very good ManU team, but is an average player with an above average free kick (and looks). I know he may be worth it in terms of advertising, but i think as soon as people see him play, particularly those who know little about soccer, they'll see the emporers new clothes pretty quickly.

European living in Aussie. And no AFL isn't football either. Most Aussies that actually play "soccer" agree it's called football.

Hockey is like soccer. Only faster, rougher and way ffcuking better.
Soccer is for kiddies hence the term soccer mom. Dad won't even go see the pussy game.
Soccer leagues have come and gone, mostly gone.

Well, imho, the reason soccer or "football" hasn't taken off here in the States is that the people here in the States want to see a 41-14 blowout. You don't get that in soccer. Each point is worth "one" and not 6 or 3 like in the NFL.

On most Tuesdays some friends and I meet up with about twenty or so other people for two hours of pickup games.
Due to bring really busy for all of us recently, the first time this year we've all made it out was last night.
I wonder of Beckham's entry into U.S football is going to spark an interest?

The more complicated moves there aren't that common in matches but the other ones are pretty common in the European leagues. Not every 5 minutes but at least a couple of times each game.
But football isn't even just that. Some leagues play fast football (almost rushing it) while other leagues play a more calm and relaxed football. Examples:
Argentina:

England:

I personally prefer the Argentinean way of playing football but somehow I think you yanks would like the English way of playing it.

I am a lifelong soccer fan, an amateur player and each weekend enjoy English Premier league games. I think Beckham is a fantastic player with awesome touch, pass and shot and he will certainly popularize the game in US. However, I think Beckham alone cannot do it. Best if each MLS team gets at least 1-2 well known players (not necessarily stars). Having said this, I would say that US soccer teams are getting stronger each year. This is due to overall good sports organization in US and as well as rising popularity of the game in schools and colleges and overall good physicals of US players. Now all US needs a world class coach as Klinsmann (I do not remember, did he sign for US or not?)
