Hi there
Tried to be smart and wanted to have Mac Mail (on Panther) routed the WSober Spam into the Spam folder. Somehow this did not work.
No I have the fllwg message fm Norton.
Mobx is infected with W32.Sober.0. and can not be repaired
Do I have to worry?
Can it harm the Mail Programm?

A Win32 virus can't do anything on the Mac. The mail containing the worm is just cached in your mbox file, and Norton is detecting that. You should be able to just delete the message and then Norton will shut up.

The virus won't but Norton can certainly harm your Mac. Remove it if you can, or at lease turn the active scanning off.

Is there a way to get Norton not to scan the mbox files? If so, you should activate that option, because Norton has been known to totally trash mailbox files because it detected Windows viruses in them...

Hve already deleted the infected mail in my spam box.
Will try to see if there is an option to un-select some files in Norton
Apart from that warning, Mac Mail runs o.k.
However, CPU seems to be rather slow.
On the other hand, if the worm works only on a Windows platfrom and I haven't installed any Windows programms (just came into my mind that I used Windows Media Player to be able to listen to some radio programms while on-line)
Wld the worm have an effect on this?
tx fr yr help

There is no way a Windows virus or worm can infect you Mac. None.
Windows Media Player for Mac is NOT a Windows program. It is a Macintosh program, written explicitly - and ONLY - for Mac OS. It does many of the same things the Windows version does, but it is NOT a Windows program. It wouldn't run otherwise, exactly the same way Windows viruses won't run.
