Here I am slowly moving up in the ranks wondering if a single computer really makes a difference..... seems like most of the teams power is comming from people who have collections of machines...
kind of makes my dual 500 G4 seem puny.............

Sortof like that, I have a 66MHz Powermac 7100 crunching.
Sure it isn't even noticeable, but it's done thousands of RC5 blocks since it was setup

It's entirely a team effort in my mind. Doesn't matter how much you contribute, just that you do.

The little guys are definitely important. If we only had the bigwigs on our team, we wouldn't be a team at all. All of the little computers added up give us a lot of units. Your dual 500 is a very nice addition to our wave of crunching power!

I've only got a sawtooth g4/450, but every little bit helps ... guess I'm one of the "little guys". Hopefully this summer the sawtooth will be replaced and I'll be able to contribute much more .

I'm actually one of the "little guys" too. I only have 2 computers. It's just that, after the dfold race, these people I recruited to crunch for me never left. The server farm was an anomaly. BOE told me he doesn't usually have access to that many computers so it was just dumb luck.

Under my enola handle is actually 7 or so people. I don't have direct control of any of the boxes ( except my persuasive personality over their owners ) so it would be hard to move the crew off of dfold to a new project. I would feel bad making them do that.

The excuse of having a race made it easier for me to ask. But you can never tell what will come of it. Whether they crunch under your handle or their own, it's all good!

Only doing a few WU's a day? No problem!

If you look at the most excellent MacNN stats pages for the Team MacNN - SETI project you'll notice that only the top threeTeam MacNN crunchers supply more than 20 WU's per day.

The rest of us just keep on crunching and collectively we make Team MacNN - Seti one of the top 50 or 60 teams in the Seti list.

So, recruit a new member to your favorite project but don't worry about needing your own personal CPU farm.

Later...
