I am just curious, I want to know if I am breaking any rules etiquette-wise if instead of using a signature line to type “Rey :)” I simply type “Rey :)” at the end of my post. In other words, I NORMALLY post a smiley after my post, and traditionally have always posted my name. I realize I have a username on this forum, so all in all I am not trying to reinforce my name or anything, just habit more than not but mainly to convey emotion. You may notice that sometimes if I am at a loss or not so happy in a thread, I won’t put a smiley and instead will just put “Rey.” or even “Rey :(“ or even “Rey !” if something strikes me as exciting or if the tone of my message was excited. Is this wrong to do? Reason I ask here is for a neutral ground. I was told on another forum that I could not type Rey :) after my posts because I needed to add that to my sig line and put it there instead. Honestly I have always used the mood of my post as the guideline as to whether there’d be a smile or not. Am I wrong in doing this, or should I NOT be posting my name and some form of emotion at the end of my posts? If the consensus is that I should not be putting that (to me) important piece of info in my posts, I will not do it anymore. Otherwise I thought it was a more personal effort on my part to try and convey my own feeling at the time, although apparently it may not help some people to realize the tone of the message and instead makes one person in particular very upset. Any feedback on this matter would be appreciated; I want to know if I’m doing something wrong. Thanks!

Rey :)

Haha, sorry about that. I was a bit winded in that question. Thanks for the replies though, all in all I guess in a nutshell it is redundant so I may come up with another way to do things, but fwiw it's like most of you are saying... Either way it is fair game whether or not I post like I do with my name/smile or whatever I feel like at the time. Thanks guys!

Well, it's a little more complicated than that, actually:

First, he unchecked the check button, then he checked that he'd checked the uncheck button and realised that he'd unchecked the check button instead of checking the uncheck button. So then he went to uncheck the uncheck button, but the uncheck button was already unchecked, so unchecking the uncheck button checked the uncheck button, which was good, 'cause a checked uncheck button was really what he was after. So then, having properly dispensed of checking the uncheck button, he went to also check the check button, having forgotten that he wanted the check button unchecked. So, after he'd checked the check button, he had to uncheck the check button again.

Of course, after all this checking and unchecking of buttons, he found himself wondering why he'd dropped his pants.

As long as you adhere to the sig rules you are fine. A lot of people here sign their posts. I think it's redundant, but hey, I do lots of things peolpe think I should on here.

The only sigs I truly dislike are the ones where people list their computer hardware.

I guess I'm just noticing more lately. I've seen three special ones in the last two threads I've read. You know, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Make a sig. Preferably one that 1) annoys people 2) slightly sexual 3) very political 4) is extremely abstract and no one will actually get what its referencing 5) retro video game characters or 6) macintosh fun.

Such as having one where Mario is having sex with Bill Gates whose ridding an iMac who protesting the war in Iraq by being a poker playing street mime.

I agree. Plus, it's a pain to edit the added name out when quoting someone.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

I intend to use my internet powars only for AWESOME!

(I was merely responding to Kilbey/Railroader's earlier complaint about spec whores loading their sigs full of line upon line of gear bling. The apostrophes were to make the post extra added sarcasm-fortified -- see sig)
