Kind of miss it. I remember right clicking on all the topics to open in a new tab, from the lounge home page, and since I was on dialup at the time, it'd take a while to load them all if people posted jpgs and GIFs.
I know social media killed forums, and then reddit didn't help, but... we had something cool. At some point, everyone who was here will be dead, and nobody will remember it. Honor to serve with you guys. Feeling a bit nostalgic for early 00s... EDM was great, raves were still happening, I was in school and constantly learning, and my core friend group was still local, not spread all over the country.

I figured you misremembered on the tabs. They arrived in browsers from 2000-2003, so you probably remembered correctly.
I caught onto tabs late, around 2010. Before that, I popped links as separate windows, and just added more/bigger monitors every few years.
Oh, and you're forgetting the bots. We had 25K active as recently as this July. Their hammering us was the reason people were getting error pages for awhile. We had to IP-ban some Hong Kong ranges to discourage them. The working theory is they were doing AI training, so don't be surprised if AIs sound like our younger selves for awhile.

I'd be interested in seeing actual thread/month or post/month stats over time to see when the "heyday" of activity really was.

Probably pre-heyday, but my favorite memory is visiting the lounge for the first time.
That was during the Cipher13-led revolt against selling the place.

I kinda remember AdWords, but I can’t confidently place it on the timeline.

We should try to create a timeline of historic lounge events, to preserve for history.
Wlonh reporting me to the secret service is up there, but I am biased.

Let's not forget the PM death threats in 2004. Regrettably, I didn't get one.
Rob, I don't know who called the Secret Service. First I heard of it was when you posted your complaint thread. I spoke with wlonh many times, but the subject never came up. No one on staff admitted to anything either.

"... in 6 months if WMD are found, I hope all clear-thinking people who opposed the war will say "You're right, we were wrong -- good job". Similarly, if after 6 months no WMD are found, people who supported the war should say the same thing -- and move to impeach Mr. Bush." - moki, 04/16/03
