On Wednesday, Apple updated the developer versions of Safari with two new betas aimed at users of older OS X versions, specifically 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and 10.9 (Mavericks). The new versions follow a slight update to the current Safari versions for OS X 10.8 and later that contains several WebKit fixes for security issues. Version 7.15 is for Mavericks, while Mountain Lion owners will see only version 6.2.5.

The Yosemite version of Safari, currently at version 8.0.5 in the latest beta, includes features that reference the forthcoming Photos app, and are not similar available for users of the earlier OS X versions, suggesting both that Photos will be Yosemite-only and that iPhoto support will likely continue on a compatibility-only basis for another few years at least, until Apple has moved beyond version 10.10 for active support. Included in the Yosemite version are options to "Add image to Photos," hinting at a likely near-term release of OS X 10.10.3 and the Photos app, which is intended to eventually replace iPhoto and the discontinued Aperture.

PGA Tour Apple Pay support extends to Arnold Palmer Invitational through MasterCard

Apple Pay, already supported on much of the PGA Tour, will expand to the upcoming Arnold Palmer Invitational, which begins tomorrow in Bay Hill, a resort close to Orlando's tourist areas. The expansion is being supported by MasterCard, which has been a strong early adopter of Apple Pay, along with the QkR payment technology company, reports AppleInsider. All merchandise and concession stand terminals will accept the iPhone 6-based mobile payments, and may also support similar NFC payment tech such as Google Wallet.

"We knew we wanted to provide a way for fans to get through concessions and back to the tournament quickly, so we took what we have been doing with our bank, retail and technology partners and brought it to Bay Hill," said Matt Barr, group head of North America Emerging Payments at MasterCard. "Fans can tap their phones, dip their cards, or use an app to buy food and drinks --quickly and securely."
