I got a taxi from work to home yesterday morning, it was snowing, there was no way I was walking. I got the same driver the previous morning so we chatted, I paid the guy his fare, in change mind you, so I fumbled around and such.

I went into the house and since I was just off a 10 hour night shift, went straight to bed. When I woke 5 hours later i went looking for my phone and couldn't find it. I rang the phone to see if I could locate it in the house, I knew I had left it on vibrate so I tried this a good few times, I reckoned I could have heard it if it was in the house. Still no luck. I ring and get barres put on the phone, just to be sure. I ring the taxi company, get the girl to chase the driver up, see if he can find it.

It gets to today, no call from the taxi company. I don't have phone insurance as I'm ordinarily dead careful with my stuff. Its gonna cost £30 one-off payment to replace the handset and I'll also have to take on a year's insurance at £5/month. I ring back the taxi company, they haven't heard from the driver, I reckon all is lost.

10 mins ago the company ring me back, the driver found the phone, and was on his way here. I just gave the guy £5 for his trouble and boy am I glad to see this thing back. Its just a S/E K750 but still, manys a guy would keep it and sell it on.

So, people aren't all bastards.

It would have cost you £90 minimum to get your phone replaced and you gave the guy a fiver? Cheapskate.

Nah, people don't return stuff for a reward they do it just because they know they've made someone's day. Many would refuse the £5.

I chased a guy for three days to return his lost wallet. No reward, but a thank you, and thats what I was after.

The £5 was to cover the drivers cost bringing the phone to me. I shouldn't be rewarding the guy for not stealing my phone.

Actually, the Canadian dollar is very strong right now. $1.15 to the dollar, last I checked.

It is $2.40 against one pound and he is not cheap. With 5 pounds you can get a lot at least one pint, an order of fish and chip or some other stuff.

And the fact that the Canadian dollar is $1.15 against the American dollar shows it is not doing so well.

There was a time when it was .90

And it is 1.42 agaist the Euro.

Yeah, it's always nice when people do nice things. Over the holidays, I had a large coffee table book in my luggage, partially wrapped for my Dad. I had put a note with it to the security people requesting that if they had to look inside the packaging, if they could just slip the book out instead of ripping the wrapping. When I got to my parents, I noticed my luggage had been opened and inspected. I found that the book had been unwrapped and then fully rewrapped with a note from the TSA inspector wishing me and my family a merry Christmas.
