Whew. Man I love when new versions of VLC come out.

This version still "Unexpectadely quits" within a few seconds of opening an SVCD... but never actually quits... Heh.

I can't look forward to future releases. Great job, VLC team.

Is the black bar a glitch/bug, or does it go away when you play a video?

It's pretty obviously Photoshopped in there to cover up whatever he's playing.

That paranoid I am not

It's probably a glitch. This is a beta. A solid beta but still.

Controller would be better as a palette i think. The new (?) visualisations are very cool in a 'not quite in the same league as iTunes' way

I wish they had a better progress widget, but other than that it looks good. I hope they accelerated xvid playback enough so that my iBook 500 can play it.

Hooray! The subtitle font is now big enough to actually read, and it has a thin outline so it's viewable against white backgrounds. Yes!! My optometrist will be so disappointed. Thank you!

3ivx has a bad habit of taking over decoding for all MPEG-4 based content, even online streams and things it wasn't intended for. If the new VLC isn't improved I'll give it a try though.

Found a bug (or is it a design flaw?) -

Click the full screen button. Now, hit escape to leave full screen mode. Note that the full screen button is still highlighted.

It would also be nice if you could get at the controls while in full screen mode.

I had high hopes for this, being on a Pismo 400, but other than the looks (nice), no joy. Still far too many dropped frames and error msg dialog popping up.

Lately I've been using the djoPlayer front end for mPlayer. Very little stuttering, great full screen (with controls if you want), and great audio sync. Try it.

Glad you guys all like it.
The interface isn't finished yet.
Look for this thread on that particular subject: http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...0&pagenumber=3

Look here for a list of changes: http://developers.videolan.org/vlc/NEWS

the fullscreen button isn't finished as is the 'currently playing' field (the black bar)

Beware this is a beta. numerious bugs have already been found and fixed. Please provide feedback on things like crashing VCD's. Then again SVCD's aren't even supposed to work, so don't be too surprised if they don't, be surprised when they do.

the visualizations are cool indeed. if you want more iTunes style stuff wait for the goom one to be used. You can read about it here: http://goom.sf.net (when their site works that is)

And we know many of you haven't been too eager about joining the mailinglist, so they finally are there.... the VideoLAN forums

sometimes the audio is just out of sync (instead of being decoded wrong). If that's the case you can fix it with Sync-Hole

I can't play "out of zone" DVD's with 0.7.
I tried on an iBook and a PowerBook (Ti), both DVD drives set to region 4.
When I instert the DVD (zone 2), VLC is launched (my setting, under system prefs.) and when I try to play the DVD, it just crashes.
This didn't happen with 0.6.2 ... I have tried it with The Matrix and Rush in Rio (Concert), both Zone 2 DVD's.

Any ideas ?

Thx

Good question. I want something that'll play WM9 and realaudio streams but I don't want to install either WMP9 or RealPlayer. How 'bout that...

A new version of the beta is available.

http://www.videolan.org/pub/testing/....7.0-test2.dmg

- a lot of bugfixes since last beta.
- the interface is behaving correctly
- the 'currently playing' (black bar) is still broken. I had planned to create a scrolling text here, but it seems to be very slow and effecting video playback enormously.
- there is a bug with saving new setting in the preferences ( especially obvious with the 'hotkeys' section )
- you should reset your preferences before you start toying with this new beta of VLC. some things changed, and several options might have incorrect default values because of this.
- the multichannel audio output might still be broken (not sure if this will be fixed in 0.7.0).

please test
- streaming (probably stuff broken here)
- subtitle support
- matroska files (no those with RealVideo of course)
- general playing

Translations that are being fixed before a release:
- german
- dutch
- french
- portugese brazilian
- hungarian
- spanisch

Translations that not being maintained:
- japanese
- polish
- swedish
- russian
- italian
- norwegian

Additional translations are always welcome of course, but they might not make the 0.7.0 cut (chirstmas)
for translations read:
http://via.ecp.fr/via/ml/vlc/200312/msg00131.html

please report back with your experiences in
http://forum.videolan.org

And don't post this on versiontracker.com or something folks.

1: - the 'currently playing' is still broken. I had planned to create a scrolling text here, but it seems to be very slow and effecting video playback enormously.

2: actually when a translation is OK it means that someone is responsible for it and that there will be a correct translation at release time. Strings are always the last thing to happen before a release, since any 'feature' change causes the need for updated strings.
VLC is now feature frozen and in a bugfix and translation only state.

I hope you will also add the custom volume and position tracks to the interface?
Also, when clicking the fullscreen or playlist button they should not be darkened like they are now, they should just turn blue.
Anyway, it's getting there

Oh, and an other thing. Is it possible to play movies with .srt or .sub files? I tried, but it seems like they wont show up.

In the "Video" menu, there is a "Subtitles Track" option. Worked for me with a .sub file (only tried one so far though, don't know about .srt files).

I did have the .sub file in a folder with the .avi I tried it with. From what I've heard though, there are so many damn weird versions of these files that sometimes they can get screwed up.
