I do replace the Finder with Path Finder, Since I bought it, I set the preferences to quit the finder at launch, so its been a long time without the normal Finder. In fact, I hate when suddenly the finder show up... and then I have to quit it right away, I will be a new kind of Mac user I think, because Now I'm not waiting for Tiger anymore, I am waiting for the new release of PATH FINDER!!! yeah!

There are instructions on how to have it replace the finder completely on the cocoatech forum, but some Applescript programs have problems with it.

I've owned PF since it was Snax. IMO, it's always been lacking in some regard. The Applescript support is the deal breaker for me.

It also has some very annoying "features" such as displaying folders before apps and the damned "favorites" always showed up in one of the menus. It also lacked a simple "copy" and "paste" CM function (It used "move to" and "copy to" or something similar).

It's almost an awesome app, IMO.
Having noted why I don't currently like it, I'd likely pay for an upgrade again even though I don't use it currently because I think it has a lot of potential.

Here's the info I used in the past to "replace" the Finder with PF:

To make OSX think Path Finder is Finder:
Cmd-click on Path Finder, select "Show Package Contents".
Go to Contents, open PkgInfo.
Change "APPLPFdR" to "FNDRMACS" (ignore quotes; it's the only thing in the file).
To reverse, change "FNDRMACS" back to "APPLPFdR".

Replacing Finder with Path Finder:
Open Terminal
type "defaults Write com.apple.loginwindow /Path/to/Path Finder.app
(again, ignore the quotes. Replace /Path/to/ with the actual path to wherever you've put Path Finder; mine is /Applications/Utilities/)
Exit Terminal
Log out
or
Open com.apple.loginwindow.plist with Property List Editor
(for 10.2.x, look in ~/Library/Preferences; for 10.3.x look in /Library/Preferences)
Click on Root, then click the "New Child" button
You'll get a line that says New Item in the first column, String in the second and nothing in the third.
Enter "Finder" in the first column, leave String in the second and enter "/Path/to/Path Finder.app" in the third column.
(Like usual, ignore the quotes, and /Path/to/ is your path to Path Finder.)
Save & close com.apple.loginwindow.plist
Exit Property List Editor
Log out
To reverse, open com.apple.loginwindow.plist, select the line that starts with "Finder" and click the delete button.


You will lose some ability to run applescripts from certain apps with this "trick".
