Sure, you get 1 GB of storage, but what good does it do if it takes more than 4 hours to deliver a message? I sent myself an email over 4 hours ago and still haven't received it. Not the first time it's happened either, some emails took over 2 days to deliver. I know it is still in Beta form....

Email sometimes just takes time to arrive. Most likely, the slowdowns have been on the receiving end.

Just did some more tests. Received mail FROM GMail instantly to two different accounts. Replies go to GMail from one account instantly, other still waiting. Still have not got 4 emails I sent TO GMail from two different accounts but CC's got to the other accounts instantly. Weird...

i still don't have a gmail account (hoping that i'll get an invite) but i have checked out my friend's account, and it is very fast and extremely user-responsive. i love the new concept of 'converstaions' and everything about gmail is superior to anything that i've seen and used.

not sure why yours is slo slow

Actually - I'd like one as well, mainly to test some Gmail account connections with our Pocket PC email app.

Some of the emails have now come through. Must be a slowdown somewhere today. BTW, a great little app I found today for checking your GMail without having to go to the webpage is GCount. Menubar icon that turns red if you have mail. Also has menu selections that allow you to open GMail in a new browser and compose email. Neat little thing...

Any idea when they're going to open up gmail to all? I've been very satisfied with a FastMail.FM Full User Account, but everything I've heard about gmail says "Try Me!"

I'm don't think I'll be using GMail as my default email until they get IMAP-support. (If they ever do..)

Well we're all waiting for that, man, but take a gmail account as soon as you can get one so you don't end up with a lame account name like [email protected].

weelllll....

i'd try the gmail machine
or gmail swap
if you're really serious.

otherwise? know people who know people,
or be really nice to someone.

the people here on the boards are being mad sweet
hooking up others.

seriously though.
i live in china, and so have to deal with the great firewall,
but does anyone else have trouble loading gmail sometimes?
it just locks up, like the java script fails or something.

thanks,
poocat.

Not that it looks up, but on Safari on my PowerBook, sometimes it'll get to the "Loading" stage and then stop. And you're just stuck at that page.

that's what i'm talking about.
i often get stuck on the inbox too,
where i can see new messages have arrived,
but when i click on them it still dies.

frustrating, to say the least.
how do i send them a support message?
(i can't click anything now).

help?

please don't tell me that safari 1.3 will fix this,
though i hope for it too, that's not an answer.

Safari will not fix this. It's an error with GMail, which you would notice is still in BETA stage. Expect some bugs. Besides, it's free.
At least Safari is supported by it. Heck, it will not support IE on Macs.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

If it doesn't load the first time, I just try loading again. Sooner or later it gets it right.

Also, I had some issues with slow delivery, but now I'm thinking it wasn't Gmail's fault. I sent one email to my mother a few days ago and she didn't get it until today. But someone else I sent it to got it right away. I did some testing today and even when I send her messages from a completely different email account, she doesn't get them right away. And, when she sends messages to either of my email accounts, I don't get them promptly, so I think it's a problem with her email provider.

I was wondering the same as well GMail sure sounds interesting, even though I'm kinda old-fashioned and, until now at least, like to have my Mail on my mac (not really trusting those servers, I guess).

Someone who has an account has to invite you. We get invites to give out every so often depending on how much we use GMail. I've given out one to someone on the boards here and when I get more I'll start giving them out to people requesting in this thread. Send me an email at mrjinglesusa AT gmail DOT com if you are interested.

yeah, i'm aware it's a beta.
it's also not supported by ie 5.0 on win, as far as i can tell.
there's a lot of discussion over their interface and how they
basically break your browser by using all java.

i mean, if the java doesn't work, you have NO control.
you can't go back. you can't reload. you can't go forward.
it just doesn't work.
lately it's been completely broken in firefox for me.
no idea why and not much i can do about it.

btw, having webmail that you can't use from older computers to me invalidates a lot of the reasons to use webmail, because most internet cafe's (i live in asia and spend a lot of time traveling) are still running win '98 and ie 5.0.

having said that, i realize it's beta, i do know, i am testing, i do enjoy the service.
i was just trying to get an actual discussion on the features/reasons for choosing them.

thanks.
pc.

Again, if anyone has a spare invite, and doesn't mind it going to a Brit, I'd love one. Very interesting to see how the ads work.

How big are max e-mails?

Oh yeah my email:
