My battery is well over 600 cycles and I am getting mid 90% health ratings on it. Though, the fact is that my battery only lasts about half as long as it used to. I guess Applecare doesn't cover the battery as it is consumable so I guess my question is; has anyone tried the after market batteries sold or should I go straight OEM?

Here is an ebay example: Battery fr Apple MacBook 13" inch NEW A1181 A1185 WHITE - eBay (item 140360332053 end time Dec-16-09 01:13:21 PST)

or

Battery for Apple Macbook A1181 A1185 MA561 MA566 - eBay (item 180413885666 end time Dec-29-09 01:49:49 PST)

The price seems too good to be true, so it probably is.

Even if these aftermarket batteries are half as good as an OEM one I can get three of them for the price of just one OEM battery.

Crap batteries are a great way to fry stuff that's hooked up to them (though, to be fair, as we've seen the same thing can happen with "reputable" manufacturers).

I wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole.

I'm with SH. I wouldn't go for any cheap third-party batteries. The state of repitable batteries is bad enough as it is (although Apple has a decent policy).

I'd never risk my Mac to save a few bucks on a battery. If an Apple battery actually destroys your Mac you'll have a good chance at getting compensation. If it's some kind of hack battery, you can forget about it.
