They are paired, etc. I think the point of contention might be that the Apple TV is connected to the network via a bridged Time Capsule. The Apple Tv itself seems to have issues seeing the shared iTunes library on my iMac. The remote app does see that library.

Is the Time Capsule creating a new subnet on its side? That's the only way this could happen which jumps to mind.

Can you describe the network in a little more detail?
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

It's in bridge mode. I'm not sure I have more info than that.

I can diagram it for you if you like. Ask me specific questions and I'll do my best to answer.

How annoying would it be to post screenies of the panes from the Airport Utility?

I'm interested in the one getting bridged to. Pretty sure the only info you need to sanitize would be your IP address.

It's your obscure Star Trek reference messing with everything...

Okay, this didn't show anything obviously wrong. Sorry to make you jump through the hoop.

My next thought is to see what kind of reception you're getting. In the top level of the Airport Utility, where it shows you all your base stations, if you click on the station Yarnek is bridging to, in the popup info window for that station, Yarnek should be listed as a wireless client. If you click on it, it will give you the data on how good your reception is.

Hook us up with that.

Yarnek is connected via ethernet.

[Smacks forehead]

I thought you had a TC bridged wirelessly to another Airport base station.

My (new) first thought is to isolate whether the problem is really the TC.

Easiest way I can think of is to temporarily move it to the Ethernet switch the iMac is plugged into and check if the Remote app sees it there.

Can't think of any reason you need a screen to do this.

The ATV.

Move the ATV to the switch the iMac is plugged into.

The iMac is on wireless, but yeah, I was thinking I should do this.

Here's the thing: Suppose that works? That doesn't exactly lead me to a solution as to how to fix the problem.

Is the iMac wirelessly connected to the TC, or do you have another wifi base station in your network?

If plugging the ATV in somewhere else fixes the problem, that means you probably have a bum switch in the TC. You could bring the TC in for repair, or get another switch.

Correct, an Airport Extreme is my main router.

I'm not sure I follow. The Apple TV works fine in cases of streaming Netflix. If the switch were broken, would it be able to get an external connection?

It's worth noting that I also have a PS TV connected to the TC and able to stream my PS4 (hardwired to the AE). God help me if the problem is the wireless portion not playing well with the internal network.

You're right. The switch probably isn't the culprit. Lemme think...

In theory, the "simplest" test is to temporarily hardwire your iMac.

If that fixes it, then your AE is broken. If it doesn't fix it, then your ATV is broken.

I can't hardwire the iMac without dragging it across the house to the AE. It also doesn't solve the Remote problem since I can't hardwire the iPhone.

I'll have to get around to trying to hardwire the ATV (to the AE), or even just put it on the wireless and see what happens in each scenario.

And since the ATV presumably worked at some point in the past (otherwise you couldn't have paired it), if the test points to the ATV it's likely a software problem. Factory reset that mama.

Well, dragging the iMac across the house doesn't solve the problem, even if it fixes it. You need both your phone and your iMac to work wirelessly.

But if that fixes the problem you can be almost assured this is an issue with the wireless part, hence it's your AE which is busted. Solving it for both involves diddling with the AE.

As you say though, doing this test is a literal drag.

I'm feeling more and more like it's got to be the ATV which is acting up.

In what sense? The wireless obviously works, the ethernet works, I'm just positive the bridge mode isn't working right.

Fun fact: When I first tried to get the TC working (before I modified it to bridge mode), I was having trouble getting an internet connection working on it until I switched the ethernet link from the input to one of the outputs on TC. Made zero sense to me.

But isn't the TC working WRT all other traffic? It gives you Netflix. It gives you PS4 streaming.

It sounds like what's busted is ATV discovery.

We shall see. Lots of scientific tests to be done.

I think I might have media on my Air that I can try to stream to the ATV as well.

A better test here would be to temporarily set the ATV to wireless (remove the hardline and use either the AE or TC's wireless) and see if the remote app can now see it. You could also try connecting the ATV directly to the AE to isolate whether the problem really is the TC's ethernet (whoops, just noticed this was mentioned).

Another thing to try would be to uninstall the Remote app, reinstall it and reconnect to the ATV.

Okay, small update.

iMac does see new ATV hardwired to the bridge (Airplay)
iMac does see old ATV (gen 1) hardwired in living room (Airplay)
iMac does see new ATV hardwired to living room.

iPhone doesn't see new ATV hardwired to the bridge. (Topic)
iPhone doesn't see old ATV (gen 1?) hardwired to the AE in the living room.

WTF.

Took new ATV back to bedroom, plugged it into bridge, decided to try remote app, it saw it. God damn it.
