The problem is, those that usually use the ignore list keep constantly going on about that person that is on their ignore. I wonder how they know what that person is saying if they have them on ignore?

Usually they like to constantly announce that they have this person on ignore. Almost in every thread.

So that being so, aren't the fooling themselves that they are ignoring this person? (as they aren't fooling anyone else )

I do believe so.

Great observation! And of course you are right!

There's a thin line between love/hate and ignore.

When someone ignores a poster it's a substitute for having intercourse with them or fighting them because of the limits of the internet.

In exchanging posts we sometimes generate intense emotional stimulation which, if people were face-to-face, would lead to fightin or ****in but because that's not possible online the only other option to interact with that person is to put them on "ignore."

Or ban them.

Or get themselves banned.

It's a way of saying, "screw you."

Or, "I love you."

I think, over the past couple of years, things have really slid on MacNN. It used to be very solid where you could talk whatever without being ripped by immature nerds. Now the chances of interacting with some surly, basement geek loser seems to be a regular thing. People not understanding the concept of discussing something without running their mouths.

RESPECT each other and focus on the topic.

Part of it is that hte PL lounge removed any serious debate away from the lounge, leaving the lounge basically open to bunch of nerds to post pictures of cats all day.

Now seems like as good a time as any to push the sale of my stool samples. Seriously, if you know any scientists in the market for new and interesting stool samples to study, I would like to sell mine to an interested buyer.

I still find it hilarious that he doesn't consider himself a nerd.

Not only does he
1. Have (had?) an extensively modified (case and components) computer,
he
2. brags about having the most extensively modded 1st gen iMac ever
and
3. Uses a computer as his main TV
and also
4. Has countless thousands of posts on an internet message board about computers, and brags about being well known on said internet message board.

Nope, not a nerd.

If more people weren't trying to be assholes all of the time, or argumentative just to be difficult, things could move forward nicely. But it's easy to snipe from the anonymity of the Internet.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Frankly I think NN wouldn't be the same without Cash, and the way the mods predictably ban him. It gives this place character. Of the old threads which I can remember off the top of my head, they mostly involve either Cash or Salty.

At what point will this organization stop? The lounge used to be intersting and intelligent until it became filled with stupid people. Then it was still entertaining, but on a much lower level of intelligence.

What is the future of the lounge? I don't think it looks good, and if the posts/threads created per day are any indication, I'm afraid the lounge won't be worth visiting at all. What would MacNN be like WITHOUT a lounge? Would it improve the other forums, and give them a little more 'life' and 'personality'? Would perhaps they be checked more frequently, solving people's problems faster since they usually involve some sort of technical aspect? Would YOU still visit MacNN if the lounge ceased to exist? And do you think that we should start removing some of the other forums (such as gaming, the political lounge, and mac modification) to create a more diverse atmosphere here?

Peace,

hey,
I've known this place for sometime but never really used macnn... and now I'm back.
But to share my small experience. I'd say I go to a specific topic as you mentionned in your introduction, and then slide to the lounge...
But I'd still say, even though the lounge has to live, it's really not where the good things are! And it's nice to have specific topics for every one. Even though I'd stay within the computer business, I'd keep cars and politics away ! or just give them a space in the lounge.
So I'd, relax, the lounge will always live, but for that just make sure the REST of the forums are real good quality and really answer questions. Then people will finally scrowl to the lounge. And the dead brain people will just give up on macnn altogether living a good "smart" *if there is such things* community....

Take care and see in the lounge if I still have time after my technical issues are solved.

Instead of wishing Rob dead, or perm banned, maybe we should wish him just grow up. And stop the rebel without a cause act.

He has some decent knowledge about things that are useful to this channel.

We've had some great AIM conversations, and some not so great.

I think what Rob needs is really some clinical help. This isn't a slam on him by saying that BTW. He needs an intervention.

I was always curious if he acted this way in real life. I could have asked his wife I guess, but that would have been rude and out of bounds on my part.

(NN family members etc are off limits IMHO)

THe very last time I got banned (2 years ago?) me and tooki had a long talk. Maybe a understanding. It was after I pulled something like Rob was now, but I was a bit more obnoxious about it.

Of course I regret doing that now, and had no valid reasons to do so.

But in Rob's case, I don't think a simple talking will do.

NN gives you tons of chances to make better. If it's possible for me to exist here and not get banned after years of getting so, it is possible for Rob to do the same thing.

He just needs to decide he wants to do it. And realize when he is using someone someone else owns, it's on THEIR terms. Not his.

Regardless of what he thinks is fair or not. Life isn't fair.

You pick and choose your own battles. And a zillion other cliche'd terms.

I don't think I am the only one that would like to see Rob stay here. But just cut the act out.

Tenspeed and Brown Shoe was an American television series originally broadcast by the ABC network between January and June 1980.

The one-hour program revolved around two detectives who had their own detective agency in Los Angeles. E.L "Tenspeed" Turner (Ben Vereen) was a hustler who worked as a detective to satisfy his parole requirements. His partner Lionel "Brownshoe" Whitney (Jeff Goldblum) was an archetypal accountant, complete with button collars and a nagging fiance (at least for the pilot episode), who had always wanted to be a 40's style Bogart P.I. He was sharper than he seemed, although a little naive and more reasonable than his Career path demanded, and had picked up Karate to Black Belt standard. The show had some broad similarities to the later television series Simon & Simon and Moonlighting, in that it was a lightly dramatic program with many comedic moments about two dissimilar detectives who attempt to solve cases together.

Produced by Stephen J. Cannell, Tenspeed and Brown Shoe was heavily promoted by ABC at the time it premiered in late January 1980. The series attracted a substantial audience for its first few episodes (indeed, the series was the 29th most-watched program of the 1979–80 U.S. television season, according to Nielsen ratings), but viewership dropped off substantially after that and the series was not renewed for the 1980–81 season.
