how can I make an icon that launches mozilla mail?
the only way I have to do it now it to launch the mozilla browser, and click the envelope icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. I'm looking for a way to launch mozilla mail from my dock in one click.
thanks in advance.

Actually, I don't think that's possible. Its essentially one part of one big program, not a separate program. However, you could download Mozilla Thunderbird. Its basically the Mozilla mail client, but its been pulled out of the browser so that its a separate program.

Thunderbird/Firebird are slick. You really ought to check them out.

You could try doing mozilla -mail at a prompt.

yes, I have tried firebird on linux, but I just like straight up mozilla.
I have tried doing the command from a prompt, but to no avail. Maybe if I install the X11 version?

Try checking with ps. Launch mozilla and see what processes you have. Launch mozilla mail (from within mozilla) and see if you get any new processes. ps will give you the command line for it.

well, it was good in theory. but I only see 1 process for mozilla. though its amount of resources used increased upon opening mail. Maybe I'll just have to fins another mail client I like.

Is Mozilla scriptable?
Or use Macros.

I'm not sure. When I get home, I'm gonna try to start learning apple script to see if I can't find a way.

... But, if you only primarily need Mozilla Mail, wouldn't the easiest thing be to select it as the startup window from the Mozilla preferences (the first item)...?
(IIRC, the Classic Communicator created aliases on the desktop for the various Netscape "components".)

Create a text file that begins with the text "ARGS:" (no quotes) and then put the command line arguments you want to pass to Mozilla after it and end the line with a carriage return. Launch Mozilla with that file and it should be as if you'd launched it with those command line parameters. I _think_ it still works but I don't recall ever using it after we switched Mozilla to a Mach-O build.
