Just received my Dual G5 and am pleased with the clean simplicity of its design.

The G4 Quicksilver it's replacing had a second HD installed on it.

Is it difficult to take the 2nd HD from the G4 and install it in the G5?

If not, are there any good "how-to's" you could recommend?

Thanks.

The hard drive is not compatible with the G5.

Apple also say that Serial ATA/IDE adapters will not work. Your best bet would be to put the drive in an external firewire case.

Best bet really is to sell your old HD and buy a new proper on for your G5.

Is it really worth keeping the drive and spending more money on it just to make it slower and external?

I have a dual G4/800 with 4 hard drives (for sale!) in it. I just got a dual 2GHz with a 160GB SATA.

I ordered another 160GB SATA and got a 160GB Seagate external Firewire/USB2 drive. I love the external drive.

You can see the Seagate external in this pic. Note how the elegant rolling papers allow the SuperDrive door to open without the upwards pressure that shoves it into the upper edge of the door opening.
