So hot on the heels of the 10.5.1 update, is this question. I'm ready to buy a MacBook and just started wondering if it would have 10.5 or 10.5.1. I'd imagine one day is a bit too soon to expect this but when does Apple typically update the software on the computers that it ships?
Yes, I realize this is quite insignificant but I'm petty like that.
Thanks!

When it hits a very stable/substantial update I think.

You've gotta be kidding me...

Apple doesn't re-run Software Restore discs for all of their computers after every single software update is released. It'd be time consuming and expensive.

And, of course, it makes absolutely zero difference to the end user. The update takes minutes (if that) on a fast connection.

I'd count on every second or third 10.5.x release coming on new restore discs.

Why would they continue to make discs with 10.5.0 on them when they could start pressing the new discs with 10.5.1?

I'm not arguing that they don't, I'm asking why. I realize that there would be a period as the 10.5.0 discs are sold, but wouldn't you think that all new discs that are made after a certain update comes out should have 10.5.1 on them?

I would expect that good QA testing dictates that anytime a recovery disc is changed, it has to go through the complete test cycle. Why do this when the original recovery discs have already been through QA and the Software Update process has also gone through QA?

With new hardware, new recovery discs have to be made and tested, so might as well roll in the latest updates so everything goes through QA at the same time. I would guess that new recovery discs are updated when they are updated for new hardware.
