Chinese smartphone producer
Huawei has appointed a former creative director at Apple to improve the software used on its devices. Abigail Brody has become the chief user experience designer at the manufacturer, in command of a team of 80 user interface designers charged with "developing creative UI design experiences and the look and feel" for Huawei's devices, as well as establishing a user experience research and design studio in the San Francisco area.
Brody worked with Apple on the initial version of iOS for the original iPhone launch,
CNBC notes according to details in her
LinkedIn account. Brody also worked to "define and execute product evolutions" of iCloud and ProKit. After working for Apple from 2001 until the start of 2011, Brody moved to become the vice president of global design at eBay and PayPal until October 2012. Brody also designed for Flux Factory from July of this year, before joining Huawei.
Richard Yu, Huawei's CEO, welcomed Brody in a
statement, claiming her "rich experience will help substantially improve Huawei's UX design development thereby consolidating our leadership and competitiveness in UX globally." Yu continued by claiming "Improvement in UX design has and will continue to be a key focus of Huawei in our trajectory to becoming one of the world's most favorite smartphone brands."
Huawei's products have regularly been compared directly with Apple's releases, with the physical appearance and features sometimes appearing to be very similar in some cases. More recently, it launched the
Mate S with an Apple-influenced design and a pressure-sensitive display the week before Apple revealed the iPhone 6s.
