Hello,
My canon camera doesn't show up on the desktop, this is fine, iphoto works but I'd rather not use it and keep things organised in the finder. I've found various posts about 'image capture' but have been unable to find where to download it or how to use it.
Any help much appreciated.
All the best,
Monkpea

Image Capture is in your Applications folder.
But my question would be why you don't want to use iPhoto.

Whoops. Looked in utilities... Feel a bit silly now. Reason for not using iPhoto is that I am a librarian and like cataloguing, I look very sexy when I bend over the desk though.
Many thanks!

Umm...OK.
iPhoto automatically catalogs your photos and you can adjust how they get catalogued without having to do it all manually in the Finder.

Nice. If you post a photo, I will add it to my ‘Sexy Librarians Bending Over Desks’ folder.

Hahahaha, okay...
I think Image Capture has a very valid purpose. My example - I shoot everything in RAW. On my Nikon, everything gets labelled as DSC_0372, DSC_0373, etc. And I know this number to have randomly reset a couple of times, so you get multiple photos with the same file name. I import all my photos, sort by creation date, and rename them to D60_00####. That way all my photos retain a chronological order by file name, and I only have one photo with the same name. I then also shrink the photos from 10MP RAW down to 5.2MP JPEG, and import the JPEGs into iPhoto, keeping the RAWs backed up for future post-processing use.
Yes, it's time consuming, but that's what's so great about Automator.
