is it possible to take the trash out or the dock and put it on the desktop.
i know you can put it on the desktop but can you take it out of the dock?
(that qualifys as GUI modification doesnt it?)

That's a good question. I heard that you can get rid of everything except for the Finder & (you guessed it) the Trashcan. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a freeware or shareware that would allow you to do that. Hmmm...

TransparentDock (check version tracker) can remove the finder icon from the dock...
