actually...my last MacNN reader name was " Jack Tse", which is my real name. I a 22 yr old graphic designer who wanted something in which i could make a funny sig out of....but eventually i got lazy and asked MacNN loungers to make me one. AS of right now, i have 9 sigs that i rotate around. Demonhood contibuted one i think.
And unless there is a "Apple Pro Underware", it's "Underwear".

all animated sigs, even ones that are small and subtle, are currently not allowed. this may change down the line, but for now i'm going to have to ask for all sigs to be non-animated (and no, this does not preclude dynamically generated sigs that are within the 140x40 constraints).
Ok demon, removing my sig now....

Even more off topic but anyway... I saw a car today with licence plate "Xie Xie".
How many different spellings are there of "Tse"? So far I know of:
Xie
Hsieh
Tse
Sye
Tsia
Tze
Chia
Che
She
Der (really)
As far as I can tell, only the first 2 are "proper" spellings, or at least the only 2 that conform to any established system of phonetics.

i pronounce it "say". as of being asian, i am pretty much anti-asian as it comes while at the same time being asian. I pretty much knew i was butchering my own name since 5th grade, and i actually got my friend with the same name (who pronounced it correctly) to start pronouncing it incorrectly like i do.

Fortunately, "Xie" and "Hsieh" (both for Mandarin speakers) is easier for an anglophone to pronounce: shyeh, like "shed" without the "d". Too bad these "proper" spellings make absolutely no sense just reading it.

until we figure out a way to add these guidelines to the profile page (UBB doesn't like us), bumping this will have to do.
and please, don't give me the "but this other guy has a HUUUUUGE sig too!" if so, we'll tell the "other guy" to reduce his as well.

Demonhood we love ya, no seriously we do, but anytime a thread gets locked by you we have to be "reminded of signature guidelines".
No offense man but perhaps you and I should go hit the nudey bar and I'll buy you a few drinks whilst young nubile women wave thier sexy pert buttocks in your face.
Sorry if that's offensive, it's really just a suggestion.

Hi.
Just out ouf curiosity, could I redistribute the dimentions of the width and length?
Could I have a 140 high by 40 wide sig?
Or some other 5600 pixel distribution?

nope, sorry.
height is more of a concern than width, since height requires that we scroll past your sig to read the next post.

Ugh, it's disgusting how large sigs get when there are no enforced guidelines. It makes the boards unreadable. As much as rules suck, I think the sig guidelines are a great thing.

This is absolutely insane. Sure, go ahead and make sure that the sigs aren't offensive.... but no animation! Thats crazy. If I can make a 10x10 image thats only 5k and is animated you should leave it. Why can't my sig be slightly taller and less wide than your guidelines? Be a Mod, not a master.

Just wondering. Until this (the sig guidelines) can be added to the forum sign up page why not make a locked single message thread (e.g. the first message in this one) and make it 'sticky' (see above forum's 'General' area for an example of a sticky thread) at the top of the lounge?

i agree with scaught completely,
just ban em' if they cause so much pain. one of the things that i like about MacNN as a new member is that it's not so "messageboardy"-looking. in a x-files board i go to, there are like 2 sigs (one under the left name and info and one under the message) with no pixel restraints....
and fyi, you might want to get rid of post count too because they're a couple of threads out there with people who can't wait to reach post count milestones

Have the sig guidelines changed or something? I can spot two users in particular that have gone from having sigs that were both within the 140x40 limit yesterday to something like 280x40 today.

Hehehe. The first time I ever really used the kidtexas name, I was trolling on some whacked out fantasy board. Really weird shit. Anyway, the whole charm of it was we had this sig pic of Texas with a big star in it that was huge... like 400x400. really pissed people of then

the guidelines aren't new. here's my first post in this thread in case any of you are too lazy to read the first page:

Image: 140 pixels wide maximum. 40 pixels high maximum. Not animated. 10KB or less.
This is a slight increase in dimensions over the old old guidelines.
Text: No more than 4 lines of text. Or no more than one image and 2 lines of text. Yes, it's difficult to tell "lines" with browser window sizes and all, but no huge paragraphs of text in your sigs please.
Overall: These guidelines exist to make browsing the boards enjoyable for everybody. The filesize restrictions make modem users happy. The dimension restrictions make everyone else happy. I want to read the text of a post, not have to scroll past the same old 400x400 sig image everytime some user posts. Animated sigs are distracting and also not allowed.

Since I can't read your last post due to the lack of contrast between the light green text and the white background, I'll just have to ask whether this meets the new guidelines:
________________
animated super-wide image removed. it might have been funny, but i hate it when images prop open my window

This is a joke. You state the horrible things you'll do to those who violate the rules, yet most of us are anyway. Ease up on the size, allow animation as long as it fits the size requirement and we'll all comply. We're not just a bunch of morons you know. We're totally reasonable human beings... mostly.

So are the current rumours of anitmated sigs allowed true or not? And a lot of people seem to have recently gone quite a bit over the 140x40 guideline too....

i personally haven't ever told anyone that they can keep their animated signature. and i've been advising a few people here and there to change their over the limit sigs.
if one of the other admins/mods wants to change the guidelines, they can talk to me. but until i post different, it's still what is posted at the beginning of this thread.
