...fondue pots at every seat. It would be a major improvement to regular airplane food. Of course, they'd need some serious safety regulations, but it would still be a lot of fun.

There are many young rightwing members on these forums proud to support Bush no matter what. If Bush is re-elected I'd like to see the look on these member's faces when they are drafted. Now watch this drive.

That would be an awfully long cat5 cable coming out of that airplane.
But seriously, would it be cost effective to setup planes with a public network link to a satillite? How integrated into it's comm systems would it be and how much of a danger would the plane be to hacking? (depending on how its implemented of course).

Oh yeah! Add that to my list.
I hate when someone farts in the back of the plane and everyone gets to enjoy the aroma.... or when a kid vomits up some milk. Priceless...

I wonder how many companies have claimed their product to be hackproof in the past? .. but I agree it would have to be a closed system.. but.. just so expensive and already costs are going up because of fuel prices.
I don't have a laptop anymore anyways.

You know, I saw an commercial for that on local cable yesterday.
I'd take it, but why would I want to go from Chicago to Newark?

you do realize that if you are on a long flight you can use the power receptacle in the bathroom??? just make loud farting noises... no one will know... or better yet... record some then play them when you sit on the pot and play games or watch a movie...
Zach
P.S. would it seem to weird to bring your laptop with you to the bathroom?
::EDIT:: oh, forgot about the topic... how bout a comfortable place to sleep, or maby an humidifier... colorado is dry... but a plane is 10x worse

You could bring a couple of spare batteries and swap them each time one ran out. Of course that'd be really expensive. Unfortunately, it's the only idea I can think of...

i've been a quite a few flights recently where the those in-seat phones that nobody ever used have been replaced with power outlets.....about time they thought of that (although there's no money in it for 'em)

Wider seats, more legroom.
I would give up all the other stuff (except the fresh air vent) for those two.

The thing about that is that if you have a dial-up account, you could have your Internet access by plugging your laptop into those phones...

Ah, that would ruin things, wouldn't it. I've never used the phones myself, so I don't know what they cost.
I suppose you could dial in, download your mail, log off, read mail offline, write replies offline, dial in, send mail. Not ideal, but you wouldn't be online very long, so it would reduce the cost...

That would cost less and might be worth it to check mail and whatnot. I thought it would be more 'cause there is a connection fee but I guess that only applies to voice calls.
Here's the United Airlines cost of talking. Data calls are cheaper than voice so it might be worth it, assuming I have power. I'll remember to take a phone cord w/ me.
Code:
Connection fee Per minute
Domestic voice calls $3.99 $3.99
Domestic data calls n/a $1.99
International voice calls $5.99 $5.99
International data calls n/a $2.99
Satellite service calls $10.00 $10.00

I have great news for you!
This feature exists since a very long time in almost every airplane - you just have to buy a more expensive ticket!

Seats that don't recline - or recline very little. I'm sick of having some thoughtless person suddenly jerk their seat back in my face. Maybe I'm the only one, but when the space is so cramped already (Lufthansa international economy, for example), that extra few inches in front of my face make all the difference. It makes it hard to use the tray for anything, and my 15" screen pb can be too tight a squeeze in such situations. I know, I'm just too damn cheap to fly business, but one day I'll have the miles...
Perhaps I'm the only one...

I don't mind if other people recline as long as I can too--but it sucks to be in front of an exit row where you can't recline.
more leg room.
personal movie players at every seat. I just flew Alaska Air to Seattle, and they rented out these 7" LCD players for $10 loaded with 10 movies, some TV and music... this should replace the inflight movie. And be cheaper. And have 3 headphone jacks for sharing.
neck pillows--some planes have adjustable headrests, they all should. Hate sleeping on a plane, hurts the neck.

Most people prefer lower fairs as compared to any of the above listed items.
I would take a airplane that also takes farm animals if they reduce the price considerably.
My major issue would be I wish they had smarter seating arrangement. Like I don't like being near kids when I'm near the window and they spend 1/2 the flight 2" away from my face and their parents thing it's funny.

i don't think more leg room will ever arrive, the less leg room the more rows of seats = the more money for each flight for the company. unfortunately business or first class is the way to go if you want more leg room. or a seat that reclines to 180 degrees for a full bed.
90% of my flights are international and on those flights the headrest of each seat has a +/- 7 - 10" tv screen and the phone on your handrest doubles as a remote / video game controller. lately all the video games are sucking. a while back virgin had a large collection of snes games that you could play that were downloaded to your seat's screen. all in the cost of your ticket, since international is a lot more than domestic. now the games are horrible. no snes anymore. but they do have indemand movies now. somewhere in the range of 15+ movies which is nice.

Some radical ideas:
boy-girl-boy-girl seating
A sealed children/family section - with fun colors and stuff, happy meal type meals for the kids. A clown, Teletubbies, etc...
In flight airplane disaster films (Airport, Cast Away, Die Hard 2, etc)
5 minute toilets ( after which time the door opens )
Blinking lights and crashing sound effects during turbulance ( a la Star Trek )
No more in flight meals - instead a voucher that can be used in the airport (at the bar even).
Stuff like that...

Great idea for those 20-hour flights to/from Asia...
Saves weight, too.
Better yet: Forget the vouchers. Call the flights "Lufthansa Light" or "Diet Delta" or "Alaska Anorexic".
Flights for the fashion-conscious!

A plane for luggage only, and a plane for passengers, so you can actually have some space!
Also, if the plane goes down, odds are your luggage will make it, and vica versa.
Really though, if you had a plane just for luggage, then you could have a lounge on the plane so everyone could get up and stretch, have a drink, a snack, watch the big screen(s).
Kids could play some games in the in-flight daycare center....

Actually I had that in mind for shorter flights, and really more as a measure to get rid of the whole "I've finished eating an hour ago but nobody's come and picked up my damn tray yet so I have to stare at this crappy food that I only picked at"
If you could have the option of getting on your own, that could be nice. All you'll really need is the fluids...
But I've flown a couple long ones to and from Asia, and even then didn't have much of an appetite, just ate to pass time...which goes on forever unless you're flying Singapore, and then you can play video games or oggle the lovely fight attendants...

I would be fine if they hired old marine drill sergeants to keep people in order.
Rude Lady: "Ugh, I've been waiting for my pillow for two minutes!!! HELLO!!!"
Drill Stewardess: "You won't be wanting a pillow when the terrorists throw you down a hole and make you eat rat droppings every day for a year!!! You make me sick!!! AND your kid is fat! I sure hope he is the first to die with we crash land in the mountains as we won't have to cannibalize anyone, he alone could feed this craft for years!"
