I was wondering this while viewing another thread by a fellow MacNN'er who is as it would seem slightly retarded. Are there victims in harmless pranks at the office, at home, on the internet?

I think the asnwer is far reaching and yet shallow at the same time, and for those of you whom are reading this drivel still, consider yourselves punkingated.

Seriously though. What did you feel when you read that last sentence? Were you upset just a little? The fact that you wasted even a little bit of your time on something so idiotic? I think that is a shame, and what is more shameful is that you were punkinated in the same thread twice! Suckers.

No really now, I want some feedback, because I care. Really. <>

People have various reasons for pulling practical jokes.

-They feel affection for the person and don't know how to express it properly.
-They feel inferior to the person and want to embarrass them but not look like a total jerk.
-They genuinely are just "class clown" types that think they will get a good laugh for another's expense.
-They are vindictive and mean but don't want others to think of them that way so they go lightly.
-Retaliation. This can get way out of hand as people try to top each other.

I NEVER participate in practical jokes. Mostly because, though I enjoy a good joke, practical jokes are rarely enjoyed by the target and I never want to put a friend in an uncomfortable situation.

Honestly, I cannot stand practical jokes for all the reasons listed above. I think there is some seriousness on all kidding around, and to take a joke to the physical level is just idiotic. Now if it's an initiation, where a group is doing the 'usual' to get the new guy and pull him in sort of, then I guess that is ok, even healthy. But, to go out of your way to punk someone, is lame.

I think my thread is a very small experiment in this. Very small. I'm sure some will read it and go, wtf, thanks for wasting my time you idiot...

I don't mean to. I mean to waste my time.
