Japanese officials are investigating claims that two men living in jungle in the Philippines are Japanese soldiers left behind after World War II.

wow
it's amazing there were parts of the Philippines that were still unknown for them to hide in all these years...

Oh man... can you imagine the expression on their faces when an official goes up to them and says, "It's been over for several decades now... and uh... you lost. Shigata ga nai".

(yes i know they probably know... just a joke)

Amazing that they have survived for 60 years in the jungle. Hopefully they can be reunited with their families.

THIS IS NO BIG DEAL!

it's like if i got drunk in Mexico and spent all my money on hookers and decided to stay for an extended amount of time. Eventually, falling in love with a local chickie and having a family there.

THIS IS NOT A CASE OF living off bugs and drinking pee for 50 years. There are plenty of American expatriates.

you named your thread too cute

your thread title seemed pretty cute when you had it in your head but it didn't work out too well once in the lounge. next time you think about whether advertising works or not, think about why your thread was basically ignored compared to this one.

Yeah, this happened here in Guam almost 25 years ago. A Japanese sodier named Yokoi was found hiding in a cave by local farmers. He and two other soldiers had decided to hide in the jungle to avoid US troops. Two died, but Yokoi survived 28 years without knowing that the war had ended.

According to the article linked:
The BBC's Tokyo correspondent says the likelihood is that they are well aware the war is over but have chosen to stay in the Philippines for their own reasons.
