I'm looking for some recommendations for Final Cut Pro Studio (5) tutorials. Either DVD or books. Would like info on products that the responders actually have used or seen. If you could highlight what you liked and/or why you found them useful. I'm new to FCP, and new to editing in general.

Thanks,

J.

what I find massively useful are the user manuals. I mean, hell it cost me quite a bit of money to ship the entire 20 lbs worth of them to my house--may as well make use of them, right? But seriously, yeah, read up on those. Helped me a great deal. The video tour guides at apples site are helpful too, but they are very limited in scope. I used them mainly to familarize myself with the UI and some basic functions.

Thanks. Yes I'm going thru the books and the included DVD. Great intro to the program. Was just looking to see if anyone had other experiences with something different. And yes, that box was heavy. Almost dropped it on my toe!

Both Lynda.com and VTC have extensive training CD-ROMs full of video tutorials for FCP. I've heard good things about the Lynda one, and I went through the VTC one (back when FCP was at version 1.0) and learned a ton from it. The down side is that they're a tad expensive... $99 for the VTC one and $150 for the Lynda one.

Thanks Moon. I don't mind paying money if they are good. That is why I was asking for feedback from resources people have used or had first hand info on. I can google all day, but a recommendation is preferred. VTC?

I can't really say anything specific about Lynda, because I haven't tried it myself, but the VTC one went over pretty much all of FCP's features in great detail, and was very organized and understandable... plus it's $50 cheaper than Lynda's. It's definitely worth the money if you're going to be working with FCP a lot.

i use the apple pro training series books...i like how you can go at a self pace and it comes with color diagrams so no worries on getting lost. it is divided in chapters. the author was even kind enough to give an approximate time frame needed to complete each section.

Ok thanks. I think in addition to the books/dvd included I'm going to start with:

Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 5 by Diana Weynand, published by Peachpit Press.

What or Who is VTC? The Virtual Training Center (vtc.com)?

Thanks again,

J.
