Too many people out and about on Labor Day to mention this?

Not sure what there is to say. Apple's iCloud may or may not be involved. More than half the pics were taken with non-iOS devices. Young people like taking off their clothes, and taking pictures, and while its not great that they got stolen, they have the right to do so.

What's left?

Incidentally, management frowns on links to the pictures or the pictures themselves in the forums.

I've seen this before - a service is pretty well secured, but has one hole. Twitter had the same problem. There was one place (Find my Phone) which didn't shut you out after 5 password attempts.

There's also a story going around about the existence of an underground celeb nude pic trading ring - admission to the club is new pictures, traded like baseball cards for more pics.

I'm curious where people put a peek at them on the continuum of evil.

My current answer: mildly scuzzy.

Full disclosure: I peeked.

Hilariously enough, some of the people organizing and helping to distribute the leaked photos (not the leakers themselves) are suggesting donations to support prostate cancer research. They have almost $5000 so far and are currently the top fundraiser for PCF.

Naked young people, doing what naked young people do. That's new, right?

Seems to me, might be less questionable to peep at naked young people who WANT their pics to be viewed on the internet.

We wanted to provide an update to our investigation into the theft of photos of certain celebrities. When we learned of the theft, we were outraged and immediately mobilized Apple’s engineers to discover the source. Our customers’ privacy and security are of utmost importance to us. After more than 40 hours of investigation, we have discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions, a practice that has become all too common on the Internet. None of the cases we have investigated has resulted from any breach in any of Apple’s systems including iCloud® or Find my iPhone. We are continuing to work with law enforcement to help identify the criminals involved.
To protect against this type of attack, we advise all users to always use a strong password and enable two-step verification. Both of these are addressed on our website at Apple ID: Security and your Apple ID.
Done.

Saw a couple from her as well, the shapeless white male ass of Verlander served as a nice "that's all she wrote" moment.

This guy is definitely getting nailed to the wall right? Didn't ScarJo's hacker get ten years?

Apple has issued a statement, saying that the "Find my iPhone" bug was not used to gain access to any of the relevant account. Someone has however managed to access some accounts by correctly guessing the password and/or security questions, and Apple is cooperating with law enforcement in figuring out who.

This guy is definitely getting nailed to the wall right? Didn't ScarJo's hacker get ten years?
Whoever did that is going to get nailed to wall, yes. Will be interesting to see what happens with the leakers, who by all accounts is not the same as the hacker.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

From what I've been reading it was most likely the work of many individual hackers over time, which was then leaked by a third party and of course the resulting wildfire spread around the internet.

Reading a 'great' discussion about how McKyla Maroney pics are/are not child porn on another forum. Oh the huge manatee!

Rumor has it the EXIF data confirms they were taken after her 18th birthday, and that the child porn claim was made by her lawyer to get the pictures taken down and potentially prosecute any distributors. Considering there's some precedent for arresting minors for taking and sending nude selfies, I wonder if they'd stick to their underage claim when faced with arrest.

I'm sorry, I'm referring to semantic argument regarding nudes of a post-pubescent 17 year-old being "child porn" and people thinking to sexually mature females that are underage are attractive should be considered 'sick'.

Huh?
Is Ricky Gervais victim blaming?

After a lengthy list of female A-list stars' nude photos were recently leaked on the Web, including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and Kirsten Dunst, Gervais took to Twitter to express his controversial opinion.

"Celebrities, make it harder for hackers to get nude pics of you from your computer by not putting nude pics of yourself on your computer," he tweeted, before eventually deleting the post due to the not surprising backlash.

Reddit killed the fappening subreddit.

Makes sense. A little slow even.

They did a really bad job of their original announcement. The CEO basically said that Reddit was an open platform, they didn't want to censor anything, and that each person was responsible for her or her moral standards. Then they banned all fappening-related subreddits.

The announcement made today by the sysadmin makes a lot more sense and actually outlines the reasons for banning those subreddits - they were swamped with DMCA notices (for which they had to delete the thumbnails that Reddit hosts and tell the DMCA owner to contact the actual content host), and they were swamped with people constantly uploading alleged CP, which they had to delete over and over again. On top of that, because of the popularity of the photos and all of the new (and often naïve) traffic that was coming to Reddit looking for the photos, scams were set up to lure people in with photos and then phish, attack, or infect them.

I have no qualm with any of those reasons.

So, now the claim is the pics went public because people in the trading club started trying to sell them.

I would have been happier with "we're taking a moral stance: this is bullshit, and y'all should kinda be ashamed".

Well, that's kind of what they said in the first announcement - this is shady shit and you shouldn't be looking at this sort of stuff, but since we're an open platform and don't want to censor anything, we'll allow it. Then they banned it.
