Microsoft has issued an update to Office 2016, that appears to fix most users' crashing problems -- but not quite all. The MS15-110 security update also patches an exploit allowing for remote code execution, and a host of other fixes and improvements to the application suite.

Outlook fixes include improved VoiceOver support for weather in the Calendar feature, inclusion of the user's Email address in the default message attribution, proper display of the message list when users switch folders by having the Reading Pane turned off, improved Reminders functionality to reduce CPU consumption, and improved use of advanced search operators for non-English languages. Word changes include an assortment of Visual Basic Editor improvements, custom paper sizes in page setup, find/replace fixes, elimination of crashing when performing a mail merge, and fixes to headers and footers. Excel also has Visual Basic Editor improvements, as well as respect for system-level OS X scroll bar settings.

Listed generically are "software updates" for all versions, with a claim that the patch "provides fixes for issues in the Office 2016 for Mac Suite." Preliminary MacNN is showing speedier application launch under both El Capitan and Yosemite, and an elimination of crashing under OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

The patch doesn't seem to fix all users' issues with crashing in 10.11, however, with scattered reports of no changes in stability -- claims of an improved experience seem to outnumber those complaining that the suite is still not functioning.

Users can acquire the patches through Microsoft's auto-update feature within office, or manually through the Knowledgebase post on the matter. MacNN will continue to investigate reports on the the patch, and will report back with updates.

"MacNN will continue to investigate reports on the the patch, and will report back with updates" - in other words you haven't actually done any investigation at all before posting this copy and paste news item/report because Microsoft have specifically stated that this Office 2016 15.15.0 update does NOT fix the issues with El Capitan - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Update-on-Office-2016-for-Mac-El-Capitan-4dc92cb5-57d1-43d3-aec7-6076b0da547f?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US&fromAR=1

You are incorrect about your claims of no investigation. We have immediate access to a 40-user pool at a local establishment. Of the 40, 30 had problems, and 17 had those problems resolved with today's patch. The rest did not.

So. The statement stands. It's not a complete fix, but is fixing some users' problems. The whole issue is very complicated. Some users report reverting to a version two revisions ago fix their El Cap problems, some say its worse. A clean install fixed some users, and didn't help others. There's this patch, which fix some problems, but not all. Some users have no issues at all after the El Cap update with Office, and never did. So, clearly, the issue is multifold.

So, before you flap your lip about something you don't know everything about, maybe ask what we've done for testing so far and our specific results, as opposed to saying "my single point of evidence is contrary, so you must be wrong." Like I said, we're still working the problem.
