I am looking at getting a macbook. As i understand it, 2 GB is the most ram you can put in it, there are two slots that hold 1 GB each. Why couldnt you put 2 2GB pieces in? Do they just not physically fit, or are they not compadible? This may be a stupid question but i was just wondering. Thanks for you help.

It could possibly fit in the slots, but it max's out at 2 gigs so your just wasting your money.

Not true. On a Core 2 Duo based MacBook (the current ones), you can get up to 3GB in. Apple has prevented it from recognizing more via firmware, although due to chipset limitations, even without Apple's block and the 2x2GB installed, the machine wouldn't be able to see more than ~3.2GB.

Note that 2GB modules are still ~$250 a pop.

He is right, the new ones can take 3 gigs. If you look at the MBP on the apple website, they allow you to configure with 3 gigs. however, in all reality, you probably would be fine with 2 gigs and it would come out a lot cheaper.
I was able to pay for my new macbook
just by trying out products from home.
