Blizzard is set to make a major announcement in Korea soon, so it has most people thinking it's Starcraft related. Now we find starcraft2.com (a domain name owned by Blizzard) and an interesting timeline of Blizzard products. This also points to Starcraft 2, or does it? You'll also note that Diablo II is showcased with a large graphic on the index page, which throws a wrench into the Starcraft 2 line of thought. . . . I am a big fan of Starcraft and would love to see Starcraft 2 finally announced (to ship 4-5 years later).

They are working on another MMRPG - and the rumor is that it's Starcraft.

It should be noted that Blizzard has owned the StarCraft 2 domain for around a decade. As I recall, it just used to redirect to Blizzard's main site.
I sincerely hope that Blizzard announces StarCraft 2. Diablo has never really done anything for me and they killed my interest in the WarCraft fanchise by turning it into an MMO/RPG/RTS monstrosity.
I want StarCraft 2 and I want it to be a clean RTS, like the original was.

I am such a casual gamer, maybe a few hours every month when warcraft 3 came out. I can't justify paying a monthly fee for a game I will barely play and I don't like FPS so there isn't much else available.

Agreed. It would be a really cool RTS game if they decide to make it one. I miss the old version, and wish it would run on OS X..

I can run StarCraft on my Mac mini. Blizzard has a OSX installer on their website for StarCraft.

I really don't think it's gonna be another Starcraft RTS. My guess is that it will be a Starcraft MMO.
If you think about it from a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense. See, WoW won't last forever, and realistically it's probably got another 3 years of shelf life, even after another expansion. If Blizz announces a Starcraft MMO, realize that it will be at least 2-3 years from now before it goes live, which would get it in just as WoW dies out.
This way, Blizzard keeps their 8million+ subscription base with an equally popular title. WoSC runs it's course for 5 or 6 years then it's WoW2, etc.
Makes good sense from a business perspective.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. But then I thought that maybe Blizzard might be cycling through graphics periodically. And now, it looks like they are since the page is displaying a WarCraft III graphic.

Not so much cycling, more of a countdown. The graphic on that page have changed periodically to build to the announcement, from oldest listed Blizzard game to most recent listed.

I really think it's gonna be something StarCraft related. If it's a SC MMO.... I'll probably stop playing WoW and jump on that wagon. SC MMO would be awesome. But I'm actually kinda hoping it's just a brand new SC that's as clean and robust as the original. More races, new engine, new gameplay. Like WCIII, only better.
I also have a sneaking suspicion it will just be Diablo III. I've heard a few rumors that it's supposedly almost done, and something about the soundtrack being completed for it or some such.... I love the Diablo games, so I'm game for that, too. Whatever it is, it'll be for the Mac, and it'll be awesome.

Just looking at the images of warcraft 1 and 2 on that page brought back a lot of memories. I didn't realize warcraft 1 came out the same year I got my first mac (a 7100/66).

That I can agree on. The sci-fi environment just doesn't translate into something people will spend hours on. My hunch is that it's too "cold" and sterile. A fantasy environment like WoW, regardless of your feelings towards fantasy will still come across as warm and inviting.

The one thing that makes me almost positive that the announcement will be StarCraft related is the fact that it is taking place in Korea.
For those who don't know, StarCraft is beyond huge there. Here's a Wiki quote;
StarCraft was the number-one selling PC Game of 1998, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide.[1] As of 2006, over a third of total sales, or 3.5 million copies, have been sold in South Korea...
...After its release StarCraft grew in popularity in South Korea, establishing a successful Pro-gaming Scene.[38] Pro-gamers in South Korea are starred on TV. Starcraft Games are broadcasted over three television channels dedicated to the Professional Gaming Scene.[39] Pro-gamers in South Korea have gained television contracts, sponsorships, and tournament prizes allowing the most famous player, Lim Yo-Hwan (known in-game as SlayerS_`BoxeR`)[40] to gain a fanclub of over half a million people.[4] Professional gamers dedicate a lot of time in playing StarCraft to prepare for the highly competitive Leagues. Lee Yun-Yeol, a Terran player known as [Red]NaDa, reported earnings in 2005 of $200,000 USD.

Let's face it, the Gaming forum is a good idea on paper, but nobody would ever go there on a regular basis for non-Mac related gaming threads. I don't like having to.

Wasn't there rumors of a Starcraft based MMOFPS a few years ago? I thought I read a quote from Blizzard that said that they weren't that interested in a Starcraft 2 RTS or RPG but they were "looking into" a Starcraft MMOFPS.
I could be remembering wrong…

You're thinking of StarCraft: Ghost (maybe?). It was going to be a Console third-person shooter. It kept getting delayed and last I looked it was on indefinite hold. It's unfortunate, because it looked really sweet (I think I would have bought the game just for the cinema sequences.
StarCraft is the only game I've really really played on the computer. Occasionally I'll buy something else, and play it for a week or so, but nothing has ever held my attention like StarCraft. SC2 would be welcome, but I hope they don't mess it up the way they did Warcraft 3.
At the end of the day, I think that I really want more story and more units on top of Brood War.

Wow. I've never heard of StarCraft: Ghost. I'm almost glad it was canceled though. I don't want a shooter from the StarCraft universe just yet. I'm dying for StarCraft 2 though.

It wasn't a shooter like Unreal or Quake, it was apparently more of an action game. It was going to be really really awesome. I wish that it had been made, I would've bought it.

PROUD OF YOU BLIZZARD for not making it into an MMO/monthly fee situation. I still play the original on a regular basis. This looks to be very similar, with just more awesome

This is covered in the FAQ, but as with previous titles we are aiming for a simultaneous Windows & MacOS X release.
The finer points of the system requirements (not yet decided) have to do with things like exact OS version minimum, GPU hardware and VRAM, processor speed etc.

Interesting. Starcraft II uses Havok. I wonder if this means Blizzard paid the Mac Havok tax.

It was announced in September of 2006 that Blizzard had ponied up for Havok for the Mac for an (at that time) unspecified project.

Did Havok say that was a one time porting fee or are they going to charge the same fee for every Mac game company?

Caveat: all this is from reading different interviews and reading posts on other forums and whatnot: I have zero solid info on this
From my (limited) understanding the Havok licensing fee is still exorbitantly high, it's just that Blizzard has very deep pockets with the success of WoW. I imagine that if Diablo III uses Havok, it would require another truck load of cash for the licensing fee. I dunno if Blizzard would get a price break because they ponied up for the initial license, but my belief is they would not. Even if Mac peeps don't buy a copy of SC2, they should appreciate the effort on Blizzard's part to include Mac owners!
Other Mac game companies have said that Havok might be financially feasible on some AAA titles due to the associated fees. Consider that Blizzard licensed Havok in September of 2006 and there are plenty of AAA titles kicking around on the PC and none of them have been announced for the Mac, it still seems that Havok is the financial deal killer it always has been.
