Well, it's the 40th anniversary of the day we all lost Dr. King. Here's a cool article I saw on CNN.com the other day: Sister remembers 'horrible moment' King was killed - CNN.com

And I just love this pic:

What a pair of handsome kids

Who?
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Wife just handed me Dyson's new book on King. A smart guy writing about an eloquent man, maybe even a mythic man now. Looking forward to it.

If they are joking, its a really lame joke. One that was used in the first reply, then someone else used it later on down. L-A-M-E.

I resemble that remark.

What I really should have said. "Who cares".

Wow... just wow

Me thinks there are a few people on this board who need to brush up on their history of the 20th century.

And every now and then I ask myself, 'What is it that I would want said?' And I leave the word to you this morning.

"If any of you are around when I have to meet my day, I don’t want a long funeral. And if you get somebody to deliver the eulogy, tell them not to talk too long. "I want you to say on that day that I did try in my life to visit those who were in prison.

"I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.

"Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter. I won't have any money to leave behind. I won't have the fine and luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just want to leave a committed life behind. And that's all I want to say.

Ignorant people don't get the chance to benefit from history-or history makers. I remember that date in 1968 very well-and I was not quite nine years old. In the time since then, we have moved from a very divided society to a society that, when it wants to, is united and focused on the good of all. Yes, this happens very infrequently, but it does happen. There are no longer laws against people of different "races" marrying (some of which survived into the 1970s), it is no longer possible to use deed restrictions to keep people of a certain "race" out of your neighborhood, and it isn't even considered bizarre that a black man is running for president right now. There have been a lot of changes in the last 40 years, and Dr. King is one of the most prominent forces in effecting those changes.
