I'm (of course) limited to 12; if yours wasn't on the list, then please post it.

You mean 2009. And I think it's Street Fighter 4, which isn't on your list. For shame.

Couldn't you just have made it, "Your Most Anticipated Game of 2009"? Did you have to alienate me? Well... A few of those will be releasing PC for sure, with a few that might or will most likely, so I voted Alan Wake (It's a really hard choice though.)

Out of those choices I settled for FFXIII. Looks like 2009 will be a pretty crappy year for gaming, especially after a badass year like 2008.

Until Crytek announces Crysis 2 or another Crysis expansion pack, releasing for consoles as well, and consoles people everywhere freak out, realizing they'll finally be able to play one of the greatest games ever. PC people moan everywhere, hoping it doesn't mean we get a chopped in half game made to fit on a console.

Woah. Look at me whine.

I should probably be doing something else at about this time anyways, eh? What's that big thing? Starts with an "M"... Ah, nevermacworld.

I played Crysis. It wasn't all that.

I'd still rather play Half Life 1 any day. Which reminds me, there is one game that I am pretty psyched about this year - Half Life 1 Source!

Bioshock 2 is probably not going to come anywhere near capturing the magic of the first game. I'm expecting a pretty lame follow up.

I think I'm more excited about RE5 and SF4 then I am about any game that came out in 2008... and they both come out in the first 3 months.

Bionic Commando might surprise people too. I'm looking forward to that as well.

I would be excited about Uncharted 2, but I haven't played the first yet.

I voted for Killzone 2, hoping beyond hope that it lives up to the hype. I'm excited about Final Fantasy XIII, even though I haven't enjoy a Final Fantasy game since IX. FFVII was the first RPG that I actually finished, and I have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for the series. If they don't release VII, VIII, and IX as downloads before the PS3 croaks, I'm going to have a fit.

Uncharted 2 I can't be excited for, since I haven't played the first one yet. I'm waiting for it to go down in price.

FFVI (released as 3 here in the states) was better than all of those.

To hell with people who say VII was the best - they're crazy.

I've picked up enough games in 2008 to last me through the first half of 2009. By then Ghostbusters will be released and all will be good.

I was playing FFVI on the Anthology disc when I had a PSone, and enjoying it a lot. I got a PS2 (ditched the PSone) and realized afterwards that the Anthology disc was not backwards compatible. I never got to finish.

I'd say it's in my top 3 of best games of all-time. Download the ROM if you can - it's worth playing all the way through.

i voted for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (real title unknown) because its the best title out of all of those if it lives up 2 cod4, but i would have to say Battlefield 3 (or whatever it is they're making that the insist isnt Battlefield 3 but so obviously is) is my most anticipated game if it gets to the market this year

Edit: also Battlefield Heros should be out this year which should be fun and hopefully a follow up game thats just as good as Race Drive: Grid

Halo 3: ODST is going to be an expansion pack?

I'd figure this would be more of a multiplayer-based upgrade. Incorrect? I don't know much about it.

It's going to be an expansion that receives it's own disc. It's a stand-alone game, but it's not going to be very big (3-5 hours by their estimation a few months ago). I think it'll come with the mythic map pack too.

Personally, I wish more companies would consider the not producing a huge $60 game route. I suppose with advent of episodic DLC we might be heading there in a roundabout way.

The only thing sadder/slower than the purchase rate of this generation of consoles is the development cycle of the games for it.

I'd much prefer cheaper DLC than pointless, cash-cow sequels. Just extending the experience is fine.

Also, I spent more time playing the $10 Pacman: Championship Edition than I did any other game when I owned a 360. I'm still wishing they'd release it for PSN.

Of course, the most obvious candidate for this will never, ever, ever (EVER!) bow down to the obvious logic.

Yea, thats what I love mods for. Get Crysis, The Orange Box, and Unreal Tournament III and you've got more extended gaming then you could ever ask for.

Not worth the wait, or hassle.

Edit: Also, notice all the games you mention are from one genre.

The character animation was pretty poor, even for a PS2 game, Not to mention you fight the same goddamn enemies for 3/4 of the game.

Guns were cool, destructible environments were cool, vehicles were decent*, story was alright.

*I'd imagine they would have a left a bigger impression if I hadn't played Halo: Combat Evolved first, which has the smoothest transitions from foot to vehicle (hell Halo 3 still holds the award IMHO)

Alright, you got me there. C&C Generals and GTA: SA? That's a better variety. But you're right, FPS's tend to get the mods, for whatever reason.

Multiplayer still holds one memory I don't think I'll be able to duplicate in the forseeable future:

The one level was in a canyon that stretched pretty high. So for fun I started drilling holes in the outside wall to walk through (with the rockets). Then I tried making inclines. Finally my friend and i resolved to see how high we could go, so we started drilling a walk way upwards. By the end it was talking an eternity to get back to the rocket spawn, and once I drilled an exit hole (we finally hit an indestructible wall) it took a literal three seconds to fall to the canyon floor and die. If you looked down the bases were pretty tiny.

Awesome.

I honestly forget 90% of the gameplay. All I remember is the level where I stopped playing, and an incident where AI dialogue hit a 9 on the unintentional comedy scale (crept up to a doorway of a small room I knew contained a dude, equipped shot gun, jump into the doorway, dude yells, "Got you!" and proceeds to get blasted into the wall).

What was the railgun like? The term always makes me think of the FarSight from Perfect Dark.

Yeah exactly like the farsight.

My 'comedy gold' moment was when a guard was stuck somewhere below me and he repeated endlessly "Come here miner! Scum! Scum! Scum! Scum! etc..."

Eventually I had to kill the bugger because I was laughing to hard.

I'm going to have to go with Dakar's first post on the game, about the rocketing through the mountains. That was just too fun. Most of the game is a blur to me though.

Releasing a full-priced sports game every three years, with a major overhaul each time would be perfect. The two "off years" could be spent upgrading rosters/jerseys/minor features.

And I agree...it will never happen.

It'd also be better from a gameplay point of view. They always make these annoying minor changes to how the game functions, many times in an forced, somewhat experimental, detrimental fashion.

I honestly don't know. I don't follow Square much, but the one guy had an amazing timeline in the comments section:
The first game was released in Japan in 1987. In the first fifteen years, they released eleven numbered Final Fantasy games. Meaning that, statistically, there were only four years that did not see a new Final Fantasy game. Even more interesting is that you had VIII in 1999, IX in 2000, X in 2001, and XI in 2002. Yet it's been seven years since, and only one new numbered Final Fantasy game has been released, that being XII in 2006.
I imagine having to port it to the 360 isn't helping things, but I've been thinking, what year did they merge with Enix? I wonder if that division is slowing them up some.

I bought Red Faction for Mac and played it on my iMac DV...until I had to delete it because it took up a quarter of my hard drive. I bet I installed and uninstalled that game at least 4 or 5 times.

Gran Turismo 5 is another highly-delayed game. I wouldn't expect to see it before 2010.
