Im thinking of buying a laptop and selling the one I have afterword. But I have several questions for people who have sold before. My concern is how when people think about used laptops, it usually seems to involve a scam or crime ring. So is there any special thing I should do to ensure nothing fishy goes on with the buyer; and ensure the buyer that my laptop is legit, not stolen or anything? Im thinking of putting an ad on craigslist and only selling local; then I could meet the customer at their bank and get the cash. Or is ebay better?

Do laptops sell quickly when only listed local? I want this to be a quick pain free process. I dont want to be stuck with the extra laptop.

edit: I dont really want to deal with shipping; then I'll have to track down a box and packing and what a pain in the.

If you don't want to deal with shipping, Craig's List is the way to go. Meet in a neutral location and only accept cash.

I like the idea of meet at the bank and watch them get the cash out of the bank. Meet at an open bank, not an ATM after hours.

I always check for the banding inside the dollars (US) and have been looking for a cash pen/marker but haven't found one in local stores. If you get stuck with counterfeit bills, they're your problem.

You can get the counterfeit detection pens at almost every office supply store such as Office Depot, Staples, or Office Max. I think even Sam's Club carries them.

I am working my way through college as a cashier at a large retail grocery chain and we dont trust those pens at all... Recently the most common counterfeits have been washed bills. They take a $5 bill and bleach off the markings and print a $100 bill over it. The pen checks for the right paper and passes the counterfeit bill since it was printed on a $5 bill...

Check for the correct watermark and strip location (they are different on each denomination)

I have found a few fake $20s but have only heard from other stores in the area about fake $100s

I had one that was loaded with Ubuntu a few years back. Sold it on Craigslist to a computer science major at college locally. I was surprised it worked out, seeing as how I had every Nigerian prince contact me. I didn't know there were so many.
