Has anyone else had the kaleidoscopic screen effect when trying to use Connectix Virtual Game Station with their ATI Radeon 7000 PCI card? If so, have you found a fix or hack to correct it or am I just S.O.L.?

TIA.

i asked this question some months ago, right after i flashed a PC Radeon 8500 and put it in my G4. it seems NO ONE HERE uses VGS with a newer Radeon (8500, 7000). does any one know a work around, besides putting in my old Rage 128? come on people! i miss my Gran Turismo 2! and i can't play it when all the colors are messed up.

the last time i tried it was a couple weeks ago, after i ran the ATI update. i was hoping that would fix it, but it didn't. and be careful about quitting VGS while it's running and looking all kaleidoscopy. i've done that a couple times, and it's turned my whole desktop a shade of pink, with a box around my mouse pointer. the only fix i could find to get the normal colors back was to basically trash the system, and put in a backup of my sys folder.

come on, there has to be SOMEONE out there who's still playing around with VGS.

while 'most peole r in X' (including me), i still boot into 9 for protools, and i used to do it for VGS.

I think I may have figured some of the problem out. This seems to work on my machine.

Beige G3, Sonnet G4 500, ATI 7000 PCI card.

Active Extensions:

ATI Displays (control panel)
ATI Extension
ATI Graphics Accelerator
ATI Radeon 3D accelerator
ATI Rage 128 3D Accelerator
ATI Resource Manager

These are all from the most recent ATI update.

As far as I can tell, you can only have ONE monitor hooked up to the card and it CAN NOT be hooked up to the DVI port on the card. Use the standard VGA port.

Special thanks to Liquidity X for all of his hard work and dedication. I hear he is working on a spell checking application...

ati set for VGS

thanks for the info, gdiddy!

just tried it on my G4 450 with flashed PC radeon 8500, but no go. get the ol' 'ati extensions are required to run' error. so, i played around with turning extensions on and off, and finaly got it to work!

(all the following extensions were present after the Oct driver update)

here are the ATI extensions i have checked :

ATI 3D Accelerator
ATI 8500 3D Accelerator
ATI Drive Update
ATI Extension
ATI Graphics Accelerator
ATI MPP Manager
ATI Radeon 3D Accelerator
ATI Rage 128 3D Accelerator
ATI Resource Manager

these are the only ATI extensions THAT ARE NOT CHECKED:

ATI ROM Xtender
ATI Video Accelerator

worked like a charm on my sawtooth. just raced my Audi TT in Gran Turismo 2 after being parked in my garage for months!

yeah, only one monitor. i believe VGS won't let you run with a mirrored display, since then you'd basically have a great psx system for the price of an emulator!

then again, maybe i should try it. but i think the screen just turns black...
