Hey I'm just wondering I know I just backed up and reformated a friends HD and it went OK because I backed up her library and what not onto my iBook and then we dragged it back. But the question is with Panther, could I save my library and photos and junk, and just drag it all back or would I run into problems using X.2 library files with X.3?

Just do an archive and install. It gives you a fresh system while keeping all your settings/files.

I want to do the same as superchicken! I have 60gb on iMac 15 I have 2 gb free. Ido not want an archive install. Iwould like to clean my system. Backup home and library and some other apps. Install fresh - and bring back desired software and files - cleaning out crap I do not want. Does the 'archive and install' or any install do anything with home spaces? - if not then we are fine to copy install then copy back!

In That Case:
1. Place your important files somewhere else on the HD, not in the home folder
2. Install Mac OS X. Click Options... when you see it.
3. Choose Archive & Install but turn OFF Save files and settings.
4. Move files back into home folder when install is done.
That should work

Will an archive install save my file settings and junk? But have the same effect as a fresh install? IE Speed?
