You are one of the most rude individuals I have come across on these forums.
You are the first there to start threads against anything religous, or inject the fact that you're gay, and the world is against you, and always ready to tear someone down for any reason, just for the fact you don't agree with their politics.

It's pathetic.

Budster has an uncontrollable penchant for starting arguments and an IQ on the same level as SpongeBob Squarepants.

But back on topic:

Does anybody else find it hilarious how Apple pushes Dashboard as "An elegant, uncluttered workspace?" This is biggest cluttered mess I've ever seen in an operating system!

sanity assassin said it best: It looks like an aborted attempt at mutating Longhorn and the worst Konfab. widgets out there into some new kind of vomit-inducing disaster.

It's cool as an introduction to Tiger, but black as a background is ugly and hard to read. There are websites like The Digital Bits that I rarely goto just because they are hard to read.

it's different to say the least. the effectiveness of the black theme is minimal as it's only an extension of tiger's outer packaging material and nothing with the operating system itself. if there was going to be, dare i say, a black appearance theme in tiger or a netural professional theme, it would make sense to have the site in black. but of course, we're not going to see this.

so i vote, "who cares, it's only a freakin' website!"

Dashboard..... im not a fan. Im sure it'll have its uses, but i doubt it will be used enough to justify the resources it will use, not to mention it's another layer on top of the OSX desktop paradigm, which in my opinion, is just a poor attempt of organizing desktop real estate. Expose' does an awesome job with tiling all your documents so you can choose which one to look at...that was pretty elegant if you ask me.

It seems liek Dashboard is just some eye candy to entice ppl to buy Tiger. Im a meber of ADC so ill get a copy anyway...im not worried. i hope that Apple is working on a fully 3D desktop environment, lord knows Quartz Extreme was built for that reason. Hopefully 10.5 eh ? btw, does anyone know what the codename for 10.5 is ?

Dashboard is going to rock. My supervisor has already made little widgets for Filemaker and Bookman.

Ya I'm sure it will make things MUCH easier, being able to access flight information, business cards, a little puzzle, and french-english translations all at once! All the while, these little widgets are twirling around and making ripple effects using up all your system resources. On top of that, windows are flying all over the screen because you got your dashboard and expos hotkeys confused. Yes, very intuitive and time saving. Why didn't Microsoft think of this?

This really is just another layer of eye candy, QED.

Have them all open and use expos to switch among them? Just playing devil's advocate

Same here. Based on what I've seen/read, it has a lot of potential. Also, from what I understand, if you have some programming experience, it's not very difficult to make your own widgets.

Only good for a quick, short promo. White (or even grey!) is much easier on the eyes. In my opinion, anyway.

And Dashboard seems a good way to fix the "I need a calculator real quick" problem, and to fix that problem on many many fronts with a variety of tools. I just hope a lot of other companies develop little widgets... I need to look into developing some widgets of my own...

In other news, I can't believe we actually have something in the OS called a "Widget." How many books will have to be written and use a different word in place of "widget?"

Well.. im not saying people wont use it, or its totally crapor something. Its alright imo. But when you look at OS GUIs, in general they try to be like a metaphor hence "desktop". I just dont see how a second desktop 'layer' is so much more beneficial, in my opinion it's like a 2.5D desktop(as opposed to 3D if you know what i mean), its a cool stepping stone....to a fully 3D desktop GUI.

If i remember correctly, the original apple menu in OS9 and prior was the place for your 'small' apps , and dashboard is just mimicing that functionality. Nothing wrong, glad they found a way to include it.

But yeah having those apps you need to use and then just using expose' to choose the active one seems like a more pragmatic and logical approach.

And blue dude...Microsoft is coping it all....theyre rebranding the technologies and naming it after a cow found in texas.

I'm merely highlighting a vulnerability that needs to be addressed quickly! Aside from that, I'm bored with it already and its too much of a hassle to type the vb code necessary to increase the font size. (And I don't want to get banned)

When it comes to fashion black is considered very stylish. Its something that never goes out of style.

Black only works if you have bright colours to contrast with it... that said it's inherently less sophisticated unless you are a really skilled designer. That said, people at first almost always prefer black BGs... though to be honest white ones generally end up looking more classy.
